Today Tara | Beaver Vineyards and her Service Dog passed their Public access test (PAT). Throughout public access training all handlers work with their canines to complete their tasks in public. That is also is 1 of our requirements for their PAT. This team has grown so much since November! Even though they have graduated we will continue check ins for 2 months and re cert at 3 mo , 6mo and year as that ensures our organization is sending out highly trained teams with continued support. 🐶🐾⭐️

This is what Service dogs should look like! Being able to walk next to one another with no interaction while they are heeling. The swrvice dog on the left is a 3 year graduate while the one on the right graduated in May. 👏🏻🐾.

Handler education does not stop at task training and public access. Teaching Handlers how to recognize and meet their dog's needs is just as important as any skill on the training plan.

Service dogs often need more rest and downtime than people realize, and that gap in understanding is exactly where 4 Paws 2 Freedom is different. We introduce our students in handler skills in the very beginning of training. Which educates them on nutrition, canine awareness, how to care for your service dog marker words, luring, leash pressure, engagement, and so much more. This part of the program is without dogs, so the student can focus on the material, take notes and ask questions.

Setting our handlers up for success in thinking about building rests breaks into their daily routine, set up a comfortable space in work or public settings, and advocate for their dog's needs are all park of raising a successful, sustainable team.

Today Birdie & Rebecca and Our Director of Training joined 𝐒𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐀𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐎 𝐌𝐄𝐓𝐑𝐎 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐄 𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐂𝐓 🚒 in celebrating the grand opening of their Regional Training Facility.
