NFCD is recognized for the purpose of bringing attention to our free-roaming kitties known as feral or community cats. I'd rather not refer to them as feral because I believe that some might think of them as a crazed creature out of a Stephen King novel.
So what is a feral cat? Feral is defined as "having returned to a wild state from domestication." Feral cats have generally been born in the wild - even if that means just behind a strip mall - and have had little or no human contact, causing them to develop a natural fear of humans, thereby reverting to a wild state. Not all cats in a colony are feral, some may be strays who are lost or have been abandoned. If there's a possibility the cat is lost, efforts should be taken to locate the owner. If unsuccessful, alter if needed and place for adoption.
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is known worldwide to be an effective and humane strategy for managing feral cats. To learn more about TNR please visit our website or e-mail [email protected].
We embrace and advance TNR as a compassionate means of eliminating the troubling condition of free-roaming cats in our communities...PLUS it saves lives. The solution that REALLY DOES WORK. PLUS...DO NOT LITTER...SPAY AND NEUTER!!!
