Becoming a Paid On-Call Firefighter is a unique opportunity to serve your community while continuing your regular career, education, or other commitments. Youāll become part of a team dedicated to protecting the Ramsey community while gaining hands-on experience responding to fires, medical emergencies, rescues, hazardous materials incidents, and more.
No prior firefighting experience is required. The City of Ramsey provides the training and certifications you need at no cost to you.

What does āPaid On-Callā mean?
This is a community-service-focused position rather than traditional full-time employment. Paid On-Call Firefighters typically maintain their regular careers and commitments while serving their community as members of the Ramsey Fire Department. Firefighters are compensated for training, emergency response, and other required duties.
Compensation:
The starting wage is $14.90 per hour during the first year of probation/training, with a current top wage of $19.32 per hour. These rates reflect the 2026 pay schedule. The 2027 rate of pay is pending approval as part of the Cityās 2027 budget process.
