On August 5th, Shana fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Twinkle.

She shared,
"Twinkle, also known in our house as: Tw***ie cakes, t***k, t***kers, t***kle toes, t***ker bell, t***kle mc t***kerson from t***kerville (don’t ask) and many other love names…has been a big loss for my kids and I.

Twinkle came to us when FFF put out a call for families to host a FF for Thanksgiving. I thought that would be a good idea and went up there. I saw Twinkle and her daughter Snow and decided that having both join us for Thanksgiving would be great. I contacted FFF a day later and asked if I could adopt them. Fortunately I was able to keep them both together even though there were applications for Snow by herself.

Twinkle was the matriarch of our pack at 15. Always pretty quiet and unassuming, she had a nervous energy that every mom has. She supported Snow and kept the pack in line. She couldn’t hear but for some reason could still hear dog? Every time Snow or any of the pack would bark, she was right there barking away, not even aware of what everyone was barking at. She was my alarm clock in the morning, barking away if she felt breakfast was delayed too long.

Not only was she deaf but she had developed cancer in her mammory glands, which ultimately took her from us. I am very conflicted about this. Had she been fixed early on she may not have even developed this specific type of cancer but that also would mean Snow wouldn’t be with us. I am grateful she went quickly and didn’t suffer long, and that FF was there to help her on her way.

I am so happy I was able to keep her with her baby Snow almost 9 months longer. I miss her a lot but I promised her right before she passed that I would honor her by taking care of Snow and love her every chance I got. I know Snow knew Twinkle had passed because she refused to greet me and hid under the table when I got home that day. She usually greets me with a wagging tail and some barks. But she has returned to her normal self and gets special time with her substitute mommy often.

I love you Twinkle and Sierra, Adin, and I and the rest of the pack will take good care of Snowy for you.

Frosted Family Update!

Fitz's family checked in, and he has been a busy boy! Here is a note from his mom.

"Fitz flies up and down the stairs with his lambchop in his mouth and happiness in his heart. He’s obsessed with pizza, doing happy spins (he’s part jack russell terrier, after all), and simply being with us.

He’s been on countless adventures with us and I think it’s safe to say he’s officially an experienced road-tripper. He’s protective. He’s talkative. He’s wonderfully, unapologetically himself, and I love every bit of him for it.

After almost two years together, our love runs deep. I still feel incredibly lucky every single day that we get another day together.

Sometimes I’m snuggling him and I can’t help but think that someone once discarded this perfect little soul until Frosted Faces saved him.

So I encourage you: go to Frosted Faces and fall in love.

Our first two Frosted Faces, Everly & Bee, were only with us for a short time before they passed and I would adopt them again and again. Fitz has been with us so much longer and we are so grateful. It’s always better to make space for the heart of another than to guard your own heart, every single time."

Money was surrendered to the Lancaster Shelter by his owner for unknown reasons, and on August 11th, we welcomed him as a Frosted Face. At 12 years old and 76 pounds, Money is a very sweet, gentle soul who was deeply saddened by the loss of his family and home. This, combined with developing pneumonia following his time in the shelter, Money needed a soft place to land - a quiet, loving home where he could decompress and receive all the TLC he needs. Thankfully, he was scooped up by one of our wonderful foster families!

Now, Money has fully recovered and is ready for a forever home! Here's the full scoop from his foster mom:

Money truly seems like a dog who was loved and well cared for for most of his life, and he has so much love and companionship to give in return. Money is going to make a wonderfully polite, gentle, easygoing companion for a very lucky family. He enjoys neighborhood walks, park outings, brewery visits, car rides, as well as simply relaxing at home. He sleeps much of the day and is perfectly content with a leisurely walk around the block

Money is:
* A smart boy - he knows how to sit, give his paw, and lie down (slowly) on cue.
* Fully house-trained and has not had a single accident in his foster home. He needs to go out every 5 hours or so.
* A quiet boy who does wonderfully when left alone. He simply curls up and sleeps without barking or showing signs of separation anxiety.
* A great car rider. He lies down quietly in the back seat and enjoys the ride. He can even get in and out of the car on his own, although his foster family helps him for safety.
* Gentle and respectful. He takes treats very softly and has shown no food aggression. He is tolerant of having his personal space invaded and handles everyday interactions with a calm, easygoing nature.
* Great leash walker. He walks nicely and respectfully without needing a lot of exercise.

Money doesn't need much to be happy - just a comfortable bed, a few leisurely outings, and a loving person to follow through life. Could that person be you?

On August 14th, Don and Leslie fulfilled their promise to Frosted Face Binky.

They shared,

"In 2022, we had a heartbreaking loss of our beloved Pixie that left a huge hole in our lives. To help ourselves, and help a special dog, we welcomed an old chihuahua named Binky into our lives through Frosted Faces. From the moment he arrived, Binky asked for very little — a quiet place to rest, meals served on time, and his cherished “cookies” after dinner. He would wait for them with such patience and certainty, as if he trusted the world to deliver exactly what he needed.

Binky fit into our pack with ease. He got along with everyone, yet he preferred the gentle solitude of the couch where his calm presence somehow drew the others toward him. Our rescued stray cat, Katie, found a steady companion in him, bonding and lying with him most evenings. Even our bearded dragons — Darwin, Darby, and Kink —loved to crawl all over him. His presence was the kind that was a soft anchor for everyone around him.

At night, he claimed his “rightful” place between my wife and me in the bed, burrowing under the covers with a confident sense of belonging. He was small, but he filled the space with love.

Binky dealt with physical challenges for a long time, but this year he began to fade. His steps grew uncertain, and he would sometimes fall forward, unable to steady himself. Nights became harder as he cried in confusion, unable to be soothed. We knew we were losing him to Canine Cognitive Disorder.

We held onto the moments he still enjoyed: his meals, his cookies, the evening cuddles that told us he still felt like himself. But as the CCD progressed, we knew the time had come and the most loving act we could offer was to let him go peacefully.

Binky was a quiet soul who asked for little and gave a lot. He brought calm, comfort, and companionship to every creature in our home. Saying goodbye was heartbreaking, but we are grateful for the time we had with him — for the gentle way he lived, and for the quiet love he shared with all of us.
He will always be part of our family’s story."

7-year-old Osa’s world was turned upside down when her family was evicted from their home and, heartbreakingly, had to surrender her to South LA Shelter. We can only imagine how difficult that transition must have been - and how much they must miss this amazing girl.

For the past several months, Osa has been living with a foster family, and we’re so grateful she has had the chance to be loved and cared for in the comfort of a home while waiting for her forever family.

"Osa is a sweet, mellow companion who would do best in a ground-floor home as she can’t manage stairs. She loves playing with her stuffies and tug of war. She has short, cute bursts of energy with her toys and also loves carrying them around. Osa also enjoys car rides and slow walks. She goes on one 20-minute walk per day and then a few shorter walks. Osa is 100% house-trained, and she’s never had an accident. She sleeps soundly in her own bed for about 9 hours every night.

Other than making adorable Chewbacca noises around mealtime, Osa a very quiet dog. She’s also perfectly content relaxing at home while you’re at work and shows no signs of separation anxiety. She will play with her stuffies or nap. We've left her alone for up to 6 hours with no issues or accidents. Her double-sided grippy socks are a huge help on our wood and tile floors, and she doesn’t mind us touching her paws at all. Her preferred response is to give you a little lick to say thanks!

We took Osa on a road trip to Santa Barbara, where she loved riding around in her stroller and taking in all the sights (like spotting ducks) and smells. She showed no signs of separation anxiety when we left her alone at the hotel and settled in for a cozy nap. Osa even chose to sleep on my husband's duffel bag instead of her own bed because she loves being close to him.

Osa has come so far, and she’s ready for the family who will love her for the incredible dog she is! She’s a mellow girl who loves being included and is just as happy tagging along for an adventure as she is cozying up at home."

On August 8th, Kim and Shawn fulfilled their promise to Frosted Face Ollie.

They shared,
"It is with heavy hearts that we share that FF Oliver “Ollie” crossed the rainbow bridge last Saturday.

Ollie was a gentle and sweet little guy that brought so much joy into our home. We are incredibly grateful that Frosted Faces made it possible for him to spend his senior years with our family, where he felt safe, comfortable, secure, cherished, and loved.

Ollie loved his meals, treats, and face rubs. He had the cutest bunny hop when he was excited (usually for a meal).

Thank you for bringing Ollie into our lives. We are so glad we got to spend the last 4.5 years with him and give him a comfortable, happy, and loving home. He was adored and will be greatly missed."

VOLUNTEER OF THE WEEK

Heidi is the Volunteer of the Week!

Heidi shares, "Thank you for this recognition. Acts of service for/with animals has been my love language since I was a kid and I have found a great fit at Frosted Faces. As a volunteer I mainly enjoy volunteering for Shift 1s; it's a great way to start the day! I also enjoy spending a holiday at an opening or closing shift along with my husband, bringing fosters to local adoption events, and flinging as much as my resident senior dogs and cat allow.

When my niece comes to visit, we even enjoy field tripping a pair of dogs for an adopt-me-paddle. My motto has been "we all do what we can" during times of feeling I wish I could do more.

Thanks to the inspiring staff and volunteers and mostly to these loving, resilient dogs and cats who are our constant teachers."

Popcorn is popping in for a Frosted Family update to tell us how he is doing with his new family!

Please share the history of how your Frosted Face ended up at FFF.
I was told he was a severe neglect case and taken under the wing of FF where he was treated for months from severe pneumonia and other medical conditions.

What adjustments have you made to accommodate your Frosted Face?
He gets regular allergy treatments and baths and haircuts, and regular veterinary chiropractic from myself (equine vet and chiropractic). He likes to go on two walks a day and we put sunscreen on since part of his hair never grew back.

Have you learned about any of the Frosted Face's favorite food, activities, or skills?
He enjoys very small amounts of cheese or peanut butter. He enjoys digging in the yard. He is known as the ‘midnight marauder’ in the house because if he has a little extra energy he usually wakes up between midnight and 3am to go dig around shoes in the closet or wander around…A few times he wanted to play. Popcorn is a fantastic restaurant dog and is very well behaved in patio dining settings. He enjoys the attention he gets, which took awhile for him to see as a positive thing with his rough past.

Do you have any fun experiences or stories you would like to share?
Once, popcorn came with me to a pre purchase exam (I am an equine veterinarian) and he sat down watching us lunge the horse and his head followed the horse’s gait swiveling sitting next to the horse trainer. His first pre purchase observation and the trainer thought he was a seasoned professional!

Do you have any encouragement for other families who are considering adopting a senior or feedback about Frosted Faces Foundation?
Adopting senior dogs has been such a meaningful piece of my life. I get so many Odd looks and misunderstanding of why I wouldn’t just get a puppy. Those that haven’t done it will never understand the wisdom and gratefulness you bring to their life and the second chance you bring to theirs. There is some sense of fulfillment that they bring with their graciousness. Frosted Faces has brought joy to so many senior dogs and so many caring individuals.

On August 17th, Lindsay fulfilled her promise to Frosted Face Chloe.

She shared,
"I have been putting off this post because it's been too painful but I had to say goodbye to my sweet Chloe FF Mama Thelma on August 17th. It all happened so fast. The cancer spread so fast. I was lucky enough to be her Mom for 5 years and for that I am grateful.

I am still a little in shock. She was the best girl, my shadow, my everything and I miss her terribly. To know she is pain free and with her Brother Brody FF Spencer in heaven helps but i am still heartbroken. I will write more later. Love you for ever my sweet girl. Bestest girl in the whole wide world."
