SY'S FUND

SY'S FUND SY'S FUN:D is a nonprofit charitable fund for young adults (ages 18-39) with cancer. We are a tribute fund in memory of Silas "Sy" River Bennett.

We provide funding for a tangible pursuit or hobby to provide a focus outside of cancer.

Thank you to everyone who gave in all sorts of ways these past 12 years and helped to provide happiness to many young adults going through cancer treatments and the challenges cancer drags along with it ♥️ I am forever grateful

As we wind down funding in preparation for transitioning Sy's Fun:D (it is just too hard to say "dissolving" today - such a harsh word for a fund that has meant so much to so many young adults going through cancer treatments) - we have recently funded some very cool stuff - 1) a gift certificate to a sporting goods store for a very happy camper 2) acupuncture treatments for two recipients 3) a Nikon camera with various lenses 4) equipment & supplies for pottery 5) very cool Lego sets, and 6) a foldable bike & roller skates with neon laces.
Things we have heard from these recent recipients include "pockets of joy, this will bring us so many pockets of joy;" "it is so sad that you are closing, the work Sy's Fun:D does is really important," "you have helped me so much and I'm so grateful," "Thank you a million times I haven't been this excited since I was a kid!," and "thank you so much, you are a blessing."
Now I think I'm going to go & take in all of the feelings of the love, joy, comfort, and gratitude that has been such a big part of this beautiful little fund with the big heart. Much love to each and every person who has made this all possible for the past 12 years! Close to 300 people were touched by the kindness

I've been sitting here for what seems like some very long minutes getting ready to write this very difficult post. And so I suppose the best way is sometimes to just come out and say what it is that needs to be spoken.
Sy's Fun:D will be closing this year ~ which has been a very wrenching decision for those of us who run our organization, with the mission we are so passionate about. We will continue funding until we reach the part in this process where we can no longer do so. Please read the attached letter; it goes into detail and will hopefully answer any questions you might have. If not, please reach out and we will do our best to answer them. We have always been a highly transparent organization, and will continue this path as we finish up on our end.
We recently funded a young man who will be getting a stem cell transplant. He wanted a guitar as he will have an extended hospitalization away from his family, and his two little girls are learning to play. This way he will be able to play guitar with them via facetime. The joy we brought to this family is reflective of the work we have done over the years. I spoke with his wife beforehand as I had to let her know that we wanted to be sure we got his funding complete before our dissolution. Her words were pure gold and I believe them to be true:
"You were the roots to making a difference in Sy's name and I believe everyone who you've touched wants to make a difference too and the branches will keep growing long after your work is done. It has a ripple effect. Every time Bri plays his guitar it's a reminder of the good people in the world, to never stop fighting and to make a change. Thank you so much."
So to all of our friends & supporters we thank you with all of our hearts ~ for becoming part of this tree of love, generosity & of course for the fun we shared along the way. We will miss you all ~ please never stop doing good in the world, it is such a soothing balm for humanity.

Happy Tuesday everyone! We have funded three people so far this week, jumping right into 2022. All young people in their 30's - two women and one young man - and all who requested integrative therapies such as acupuncture and massage to help with the side effects of their treatments. We appreciate everyone who helps to make these gifts possible; to help an age group that is so underfunded when it comes to getting help during their cancer treatments. Thank you for making a difference in the world

Brittney is 33 years old and undergoing maintenance chemotherapy for stage IV cancer. Between surgeries and chemotherapy treatments Brittney's body has undergone a lot of stress. We funded massage therapy for Brittney, and here is what she shared regarding her gift:
"I am very grateful for Sy’s fund, and what they have done to help me combat the bone and muscle pain I experience from my chemotherapy pills, it’s so refreshing to be able to go into the massage room, and just BREATHE & RELAX, and for a moment, completely forget about cancer! I leave my massage treatments feeling rejuvenated and refreshed to tackle the next steps ahead of me. It truly is a beautiful gift and I am so very thankful!"
Thank you all for your donations and for helping to fund young adults like Brittney, who benefit greatly from your generosity.
