I was so excited when reached out, about being an ARC reader, for their revitalized version of “Toby Tyler” by James Otis. A little background, this book was published in 1881 and this is an updated version of his beloved classic, it includes more language for modern readers.

This is my first time receiving an ARC book, so I was really excited to read it. I won’t lie, I had a hard time getting into the book at first. Call it my beginning of summer distraction, but I did drag my feet a little bit. I recently took it on my train trip to New Mexico, and finished it all and loved what a sweet story it was. As a mom, I was sympathetic to Toby’s feeling of neglect and wanting to belong. Plus, every child at one point has imagined what running away and joining the circus would be like. Not just that, but the want of fitting in and being part of something. Toby meets some incredible and not some incredible friends along the way, including my favorite Mr. Stubbs and Mrs. Treat. (I was definitely pulling for Mr. and Mrs. Treaty by the way!)

Keep in mind, it has some scary parts for children, including death towards the end. But I love what is doing with children’s literature, with not just reprints of childhood favorites, but new books as well. I highly suggest adding this sweet, “old” tale to your home library.

Victoria, a 2Create Member Artist who unfortunately passed away several years ago, was an extraordinary artist. After a career in the film industry, she focused full-time on art, creating licensed designs for home decor, fabric, and art prints. She was renowned for her wildlife and Western paintings and operated Foxrun Studio.

Victoria's Art will be up in 2Create Gallery the entire month of March. And her Art in the show will be sold through a month-long Silent Auction! Bids will be open for the entire month of March, with the last bid accepted on Sunday, March 29th, at 5pm.
