Today’s : Portico ✨

We wish we could say Portico's story was unusual.

Sadly, over the past year, we've rescued four or five Sheepadoodles from overcrowded Los Angeles shelters after they were discarded once they were no longer wanted. It's another heartbreaking reminder of the consequences of irresponsible breeding.

But Portico isn't defined by how he ended up in the shelter.

He's defined by the joy he brings everywhere he goes.

Just two years old and about 65 pounds, Portico is everything you could hope for in a best friend. Sweet, affectionate, goofy, and endlessly happy, he's basically a giant living teddy bear. Within days of arriving at The Barking Lot, he had everyone smiling with his playful personality, belly-up requests for rubs, and constant desire to be close to his people.

He's wonderful with other dogs, loves meeting new people, and is eager to please. Whether you're heading out for a hike, spending the day at the beach, or simply relaxing at home, Portico just wants to be wherever you are.

His non-shedding coat means he'll need regular grooming, but that's a small price to pay for a companion who radiates this much happiness.

Some dogs make you smile.

Portico makes it impossible not to.

Today's : Truss ✨

Earlier this week we introduced you to Cladding. Today we'd love for you to meet his father, Truss.

Truss is one of seven wonderful dogs we welcomed after their owner became overwhelmed caring for such a large family. Thanks to a kind neighbor who reached out for help, this sweet crew was given a second chance—and now Truss is ready to find the forever home he deserves.

Just over two years old and about 30 pounds, Truss is the biggest of the bunch. With his adorable low-rider legs, scruffy face, and soulful eyes, he's impossible not to fall in love with. He looks to be some sort of a schauzer and something to make his legs short—but whatever his breed, he's 100% lovable.

Truss has a calm, easygoing personality. He's happy to join you for neighborhood walks or an easy hike, but he's just as content curling up on the couch at the end of the day. Having lived with other dogs his entire life, he'd fit in beautifully with an existing pack, though we're confident he'd thrive as the center of someone's world too.

His gentle, friendly nature makes him a great candidate for apartment living, and he should do well with respectful children. He enjoys attention without being demanding, doesn't mind being picked up, and has the kind of steady temperament that makes him an easy companion.

Today's : Fable & Story ❤️

Sometimes love doesn't end. It simply finds somewhere new to go.

Last week, a beloved little dog named Jordan crossed the Rainbow Bridge. He had spent his life surrounded by love, and one of our volunteers wanted to honor his memory the best way she knew how—by saving a shelter dog.

But when she arrived, she discovered that dog wasn't alone.

She had a best friend.

Looking at Fable and Story leaning on one another, she couldn't imagine separating them. One quick call to The Barking Lot later, and both girls walked out of the shelter together just minutes before they were scheduled to be euthanized.

Now they're safe.

Fable, a 50-pound Shepherd mix, and Story, a 45-pound pocket Pittie, are both about four years old. They're gentle, affectionate, wonderful with people and other dogs, and have calm, easygoing personalities.

It's clear life hasn't been easy. Fable is painfully underweight and missing the tips of her ears. Story is thin too, with scars from her past. Whatever they've been through, they've been through it together.

They've already lost the only home they knew.

Please don't let them lose each other too.

The greatest way to honor Jordan's memory would be to give Fable and Story what he had—a lifetime of love, together.

Today’s : Cladding ✨

Sometimes all a family needs is a second chance.

Cladding came to The Barking Lot with his mom and five siblings after their owner became overwhelmed caring for seven dogs. Thanks to a kind neighbor and an amazing volunteer, this sweet family made the trip to the Ranch, and now they're ready to start the next chapter of their lives.

Cladding is a 26-pound, 1 year old, scruffy little low-rider with an irresistible smile and a personality to match. He may look like a Westie, but with a poodle mix mom and schnauzer-looking brothers, his breed is anyone's guess—and we think that's part of his charm.

He's friendly with people and other dogs, enjoys attention, but is also perfectly happy relaxing nearby while you go about your day. With his easygoing, low-to-medium energy, he'd be just as happy joining you for walks as he would curling up in an apartment. Having another dog to play with would be a bonus, but it's not required.

Cladding has spent his whole life surrounded by family. Now he's hoping to find one of his very own. ❤️

✨ Today’s : The Architecture Puppies ✨

Meet Piazza (F), Pergola (F), and Stucco (M) — three of the sweetest little scruff muffins you'll ever meet. 💕

These three are part of an incredible litter of seven puppies (three girls and four boys) that we recently rescued from an overcrowded Los Angeles shelter, where they were at risk of euthanasia. Thanks to our amazing supporters, these babies were given a second chance. Now they're ready to find the loving families they so deserve.

At just four months old, they're equal parts playful, cuddly, and adorable. We believe this litter is a mix of Wirehaired Pointing Griffon and Poodle, giving them their irresistibly scruffy good looks. When fully grown, they're expected to weigh around 30–40 pounds.

Every one of these puppies is sweet, well-socialized with both people and dogs, and full of playful puppy energy. They love making new human and canine friends and are sure to grow into loyal, affectionate companions.

Like all puppies, they'll need patience, training, and guidance as they grow. They'll thrive with active families looking for an adventure buddy and would love a home with respectful children and/or another friendly dog.

Today’s : Percy! ✨

No dog should ever have to wonder if someone is coming back.

Percy spent days alone on the hiking trails in Jamul after being abandoned, until hunger, loneliness, or maybe just hope led him through the fence of one of our volunteers. That decision may have saved his life.

Percy is only about a year old, yet he already carries the kind of heartbreak no dog should know. When you first reach out to pet him, he'll gently duck his head, as if he's bracing for what might come next. But despite everything he's been through, he still chooses to trust. Within moments, he's leaning in for more affection, reminding us just how forgiving dogs can be.

What makes Percy even more special is how easily he fits into almost any home. He has lived happily with dogs, cats, children, chickens, pigs, and other farm animals, proving over and over that he has one of the sweetest, gentlest temperaments you'll ever meet. At about 55 pounds, we think he's a Border Collie/Lab mix—but his heart is what truly stands out.

Percy has already survived being left behind. Now he deserves a family that will never let him wonder if he's loved again.
