✨ Introducing: Wake House Wednesday ✨

The Wake House in Raleigh is where children in foster care come for court-ordered visits with their biological families while working toward reunification.

Every week, 150–170 children and 70 parents walk through these doors for moments that matter deeply — moments of connection, healing, and rebuilding relationships.

Right now, the space feels cold and institutional. Our vision is to transform it into a warm, home-like environment where families can read books together, play games, share meals, and reconnect with dignity and hope.

The renovated Wake House will include:
🤍 Updated visitation rooms
🤍 Family gathering spaces
🤍 Play areas for kids and teens
🤍 A lending library
🤍 Practical support resources for families

We are currently raising funds and gathering community partners to help make this vision possible. Our goal is $120,000, and we can’t wait to share more in the coming weeks about how you can help be part of this story. 🧩

Once a month, partners from our collaborative join forces to love on over 400 Wake County social workers. 💛

In our eyes, they are unseen frontline heroes. The people who show up every single day and often go unnoticed. The people who are blamed, criticized, and questioned more than they are thanked. The people many assume should somehow be doing more, fixing more, or carrying it all better.

But the reality is this: they are making incredibly hard decisions that most of us would never want the weight of carrying. They are doing their best to navigate a broken system filled with hard choices and so many gray areas.

So the very least we can do is show up and remind them that they are seen, valued, and not alone. We want them to know their community cares deeply about them and the work they do.

Because everyone deserves to be seen.

Children are sleeping at the Department of Social Services office.

While we wish we had the magic key to remove that barrier and ensure no child ever had to sleep there again, we know the reality is more complicated than that.

So instead…we show up.

Through trusted relationships and ongoing partnership, we continue reminding the department that we are always just a phone call away to help however we can.

And this time, they took us up on the offer.

The Wake County Department of Social Services reached out asking if we could help gather resources for youth awaiting placement in the building. Things like towels, sheets, pillows, blankets, and air mattresses.

Not lavish items.�Just necessities.
And like always…the community showed up.

An Amazon wishlist was created, and items came flying in from church partners, community partners, businesses, and other organizations ready to help meet the need.

Because if we’ve learned anything, it’s this: when the community knows the need, the community shows up around children and families. ❤️

One of our FAVORITE rhythms each month is gathering to pray.

Before anything else: before strategy, before plans, we started with prayer. And we want to keep building from that place.

These mornings have become something really special.
A space to slow down, to be together, and to pray for the families and community we care so deeply about.

It’s also been a time to get to know each other
people who share the same heart, the same vision, and the same hope for what could be.

Alone we can't fix the foster care crisis, but together, we can create lasting change for families in our community - piece by piece!

So this May, for Foster Care Awareness Month, we’re looking for 31 people to become one of our Puzzle Partners - one for each day of May. Puzzle Partners are our monthly donors that support RDU for FAMs to continue in the work that the Lord has invited us in to.

We’re celebrating a big milestone for the Wake House Project 🧩

Thanks to your support, we reached our $11,500 match, allowing us to move forward with hiring painters and beginning the transformation of the space.

Next steps include installing custom closet and organization systems to help keep donations and resources well organized for families.
