Mandatory Public Notice: Neighbor to Neighbor is applying for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) Grant to expand our academic mentoring and enrichment programs for students.

This funding will support after-school learning, family engagement, and community impact.

As we step into this new year, we’re reflecting on the incredible strides made at Neighbor to Neighbor:

📚 Neighbor Youth & Teens We grew our reach by 38%, bringing more students into life-changing opportunities. This year, we secured funding for a Teen Center (coming this year), created a formal partnership with Wake Tech and launched a Teen Employment program that now employs over 15 teens, helping after school and expanding our capacity to serve even more students.

💼 Neighbor Cleaning Neighbor Cleaning had a banner year, adding more than $200,000 in new commercial contracts and creating even more living-wage jobs for our community. And we’re just getting started—2025 is all about taking this growth to the next level!

🏠 Neighbor Housing We purchased a second duplex and a lot for 9 additional affordable units. These homes aren’t just affordable—they’re a pathway to homeownership, with rent savings and supportive programming designed to help families achieve lasting housing mobility towards owning a home.

This is the power of our emerging two-generational approach: combining education, employment, and housing to create lasting mobility and pathways out of poverty.

🌟 We’re excited to announce our application for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant through NCDPI today! Wish us luck!! This significant step allows us to deepen our commitment to academic excellence and resilience in our community.

📚 Through our long-standing Academic Mentoring program, we’ve empowered countless students in Raleigh to overcome educational barriers. With initiatives like Aprendo for English Language Learners and our general mentoring, we help students achieve remarkable academic growth—often tripling national averages!

🏫 The 21st CCLC grant is designed to support programs just like ours, offering students from low-income families access to high-quality, out-of-school learning experiences. It’s a perfect match for N2N’s mission to equip our community’s youth with the skills and support they need for lifelong success.

🤝 By partnering with Title I schools and addressing the needs of economically disadvantaged students, this grant will help us expand our reach and continue to defy the odds against under-resourced students.

A shared hour at N2N transcends mere tutoring – it’s a collision, a bridge, a testament to the power of human connection. This snapshot of Julia and Zyyonna captures more than two individuals in matching stripes; these smiles clue you in to a longer, deeper knitting that’s happening and tightening our collective social fabric one relationship at a time. These Mentors and Students show that the change we need in our cities can grow from the simplest acts of showing up and opening up. Here, Mentors learn as much as they teach, and Students teach as much as they learn.

Building foundational language skills is more than just reaching a grade level. Our Aprendo Academic Mentoring program delves deep, supporting ELL (English Language Learners) in every dimension, from listening, speaking, literacy, reading, conversation and comprehension. Often coming from households where English is seldom spoken, our students thrive with fun one on one relationships and tailored curriculum based on their unique gaps. Through Aprendo, they’re not just prepared for tomorrow, but for a lifetime of learning. 📚✨

For 25 years, our MAD House (Make A Difference) Basketball League has been more than just a game for N2N—it’s where character, leadership, and teamwork take center stage. After a brief hiatus post-covid, we’re thrilled to announce the return of MAD House this Friday!

Swipe to see the future ➡️ Last night, an N2N community dream was set in motion. Our ‘Evening to Ignite’ with was nothing short of magical, with over 375 people coming together to smash the goal for the a new Teen Center build at N2N. This dream, over 4 years in the making, is finally becoming a reality because and and believed in this project from day one! They rallied support and challenged generosity to flow freely.

These are the renders of the Neighbor Teen Center that, by the end of 2024, will add over 4000 sqft of vibrant, purposeful space dedicated to both enriching our teen programming and launching brand new initiatives like Neighbor Media! It will be a space where aspirations take flight, where Raleigh’s future leaders find their ground.

We could not have done this without over 40 vendors who donated their talents to the night, ensuring every penny raised directly fuels this groundbreaking project.

To those who were there and those who were with us in spirit – this victory is you. For 27 years, our first move has and is ALWAYS been to listen to the needs of our neighbors and our teens have long desired this space. The Neighbor Teen Center isn’t just a building; it’s a beacon, a promise of growth, and we can’t wait to tell you more about all our plans we have to leverage it for teens to not just grow academically but to also thrive vocationally and economically. Here’s to turning dreams into reality and to an even brighter future for our teens.

Go Ariel! Ariel’s graduation is not just a remarkable achievement; it’s a beacon of generational triumph 🎓✨. Her father Marvin, circled here, was one of the very first students ever at Neighbor to Neighbor. His mom, Ariel’s grandmother, was one of the first mom’s who spoke to what the community needed that led to the establishment of N2N! Her dream for her children in Walnut Terrace continues on through her son and her grandchildren.

So here we are, 27 years later, Marvin stands with his wife and children, celebrating Ariel’s milestone along with Mentors, N2N Staff and leaders, a true testament to the enduring power of community support and educational empowerment. So for us, this is more than a family celebration; it’s a legacy of resilience and hope, a generational commitment to breaking barriers and building futures, one family at a time. 💫👨‍👩‍👧‍👦
