🍿 Thank you to everyone who joined Community Food Strategies and NC Budget & Tax Center for last week’s Policy Popcorn webinar!

We explored two proposed constitutional amendments—the income tax rate cap and property tax limit—and what they could mean for food access and essential public services.

North Carolina’s regular voter registration deadline is tomorrow, Friday, October 9, at 5 PM. Already registered? Take 30 seconds to check your registration and current address.

Then make a plan to vote with a friend, neighbor, or loved one. Showing up together helps build communities rooted in good food, dignity, and care.

Meet Everett Campbell, a member of the Community Food Strategies team! 🌱

Everett brings a passion for gender and racial equity and for programs shaped by the communities and places they serve. As a Program Coordinator with MDC Rural Forward’s Rural Prosperity and Investment team, they support rural community development across the South through coordination, policy research, and facilitation.

Their background in social work, housing outreach, and connecting shelter residents with locally grown food through community gardens helped spark their commitment to rural prosperity and community-centered food systems.

Everett joined our team in April and calls Durham home, along with their two cats. We’re grateful for the experience, care, and perspective they bring to this work!

Have you met Jenn Tuft? 🌱 Jenn is Community Food Strategies’ Western Lead and a member of the WNC Food Coalition team!

Living in the Appalachian mountains of Western North Carolina, Jenn brings a background in sociology, Spanish, nonprofit research, and a passion for positive social change.

After discovering the transformative and healing power of food in her own life, she transitioned to full-time cooking and hobby gardening. Today, she supports local food councils, free-pantry projects, commercial kitchen startups, and food hub collaboratives across the region.

We’re grateful for the experience, care, and enthusiasm Jenn brings to this work!

Everett, Nathalie, and Ali recently attended the Nourish to Flourish Conference Fall Convening in Greenville, NC. Thank you to Resourceful Communities for bringing people together to explore the idea of food as medicine.

One of our favorite activities invited everyone to share the story behind their passion for food work. Hearing what brought others to this work helped us make meaningful connections with people from communities across North Carolina.
