Only one thing makes Rossy happy.

Being held like a baby ❤️

It’s Day 2 for Rossy in the shelter and she’s a little anxious. Ok, that might be an understatement. She’s the very emotion of worry, with jitters that rival a grad student downing their twelfth can of Red Bull as they cram for tomorrow’s big test. But when you hold her, you can see some of that worry float away, bit by bit. Being held reassures her that she isn’t alone, that she’s worthy of love, and that happiness is on the horizon.

We’ve been making her some promises, in the hopes of calming her scared but hopeful heart. We’ve told her a family is right around the corner. That whoever brings her home will buy her treats and a pair of plaid pajamas to keep her cozy. We’ve told her that, soon, her days will be wrapped in love instead of worry.

But none of this is possible if we don’t find her person. We need your help to keep our promises. If you know someone looking for a tenderhearted dog with a whole lot of love to give, please send them our way. Together, we can get Rossy home. Head to spcawake.org/dogs to learn more.

It’s a vaccine extravaganza! 🎉🎉🎉

This past weekend, 364 pets from our community received free & low-cost vaccines and microchips at our pop-up Wellness Clinic. That’s a whole lot of pets — and we had a blast meeting every one of them! There’s nothing we love more than oohing and ahhing over your furry family members and seeing your smiling faces.

We want to extend a massive THANK YOU to Petco Love for generously providing FREE feline and canine distemper-combo vaccines for this clinic and our community’s pets.

And to our volunteers — you all make our world go round! Thank you, to each and every one of you, for showing up (despite the crazy heat!) and helping this clinic run even more smoothly than we could have imagined. We couldn’t do it without you.

Princess Bubblegum and Marceline were the only two not chosen 😭

Their mother was found as a wandering stray – hungry, lost, and very, VERY pregnant. Thankfully, a good Samaritan spotted mom waddling down the street and knew without a shadow of a doubt that she needed saving.

It was just in time. Because moments after arriving to safety, mom went into labor and had seven large, fluffy puppies.

Fast forward to today, and most of the puppies have headed to loving homes. Even mom has found her person. But Princess Bubblegum and Marceline? They're still here at the shelter, just waiting for someone to walk through the door and choose them 💔

Pua is an oink.

At first you look at her and see a dog. But her vibe is all pig. She toddles like a pig, snarfs up food like a pig, and is very, very pig-shaped.

She’s been in a foster home for a while now and it’s taught us a lot about her. She loves car rides, meeting doggy friends, and napping on the couch while you run errands. She been to more events than a prized sow – from bar shows to parades, and she behaved like an angel at all of them. But her favorite thing in the world? Sleeping in bed with you at night ❤️

Pua unfortunately has chronic inflammation of her airway and lungs, which gives her the oinkiest cough you ever did hear. But don’t let that alarm you! She’s not contagious, is doing well, and just needs regular monitoring with a vet to keep an eye on things. Is that too much to ask for the cutest piggy in town? 🐷

When Dorotha's owner passed away, Dorotha was released outside to fend for herself. She wandered from house to house, confused and discarded, when before she'd been treasured. We can't imagine the depth of her heartbreak, having lost her person and her home all at once 💔

Thankfully, kind neighbors stepped up to provide temporary care until a solution could be found. Now, she's here with us and we're determined to find her a happy life.

Despite being 71 lbs, Dorotha longs to be a lap dog. Nothing makes her happier than climbing next to you on the couch and putting her head in your hands while you watch TV. She's not asking for much – just a comfy place to lay, a full bowl of food, and a gentle family to call her own.

We've never seen eyes quite like these before...👀

Nate and Nina are littermates, born with some unique eyes that appear to look in all directions at once. We never quite know what they're looking at or what thoughts are running through their heads, which makes them both intimidating and mysterious. Are they hatching a plan for world domination? Looking into another dimension? Or are they just zoned out while "Cotton-Eyed Joe" plays on loop in their heads? We will never know.

Nate and Nina already have pending adoptions (because of course they do, just look at them!) but we felt we would be doing a disservice not to show you these faces. They're living Beanie Babies with googly eyes, and how often do you get to see something THAT cute?!

When Maverick meets new people, he gives them a look that says "Please pet me" 🥺 And then when they pet him? He goes crazy.

The moment your hands touch Maverick, he goes wide-eyed, flops onto his belly, and rolls around meowing and purring – like a pet to the head is a miracle he can't quite process. He shoves his face into your hands with the force of a bowling ball and then refuses to let you take your hands away. He headbutts your chin and meows in your face for good measure.

Maverick does everything, and we mean EVERYTHING, in his power to make one thing clear: There's never such thing as too much love. Not to Maverick ❤️

You're looking at a TON of flea/tick prevention we just distributed to animal shelters throughout North Carolina!

These preventatives were generously donated to us by the incredible folks at BISSELL Pet Foundation – and with a note that we are welcome to pay it forward and spread the love. Flea/tick prevention is not a part of many shelters' standard regimen of care – most NC shelters just don't have the resources. So being able to provide so many doses to so many shelters has been incredible.

We want to express our deepest gratitude to Bissell for making this possible. We love partnering together to help protect shelter pets throughout our state. Thank you 🩷

Whoever said snakes aren't cute has clearly never met Glorp 😍

She's a cutie patootie noodle with puppy dog eyes, scales, and most importantly, a need for a loving home 🩷

Despite her attention-grabbing apperance, Glorp doesn't love when the focus is on her. She wasn't handled very much as an itty bitty baby Glorp, so now human hands make her a little nervous. She'll need an experienced adopter who's comfortable working with her as she continues to come out of her shell. The good news is, she's already making great strides in fostercare and is getting closer to becoming a confident Glorious Glorpy Glorp every day!
