Bright For Will

Bright For Will The BFW Foundation exists to honor our son's life by brightening the scholastic, recreational and spiritual opportunities of children in our community.

In July 2015, our three-year-old son Will passed away as a result of an accidental drowning at a local swimming pool. In the aftermath of this tragedy, we asked for memorial donations to be directed to our church to hold in trust until we decided how we wanted to proceed. Friends also started a “Go Fund Me” collection online. For Will’s memorial service, we asked that those attending dress in brig

ht colors as a tribute to the happy, active child that he was. An out of town family member who was unable to attend started a social media hashtag, . From this was born the Bright for Will Foundation! In creating the Bright for Will foundation, we have partnered with the North Carolina Community Foundation (“NCCF”). We are not a traditional non-profit, but instead we function as a donor-advised endowment fund. NCCF is the traditional non-profit acting to manage many different funds that support a variety of causes. We are responsible for fund raising and are empowered to make decisions about how the funds raised are distributed. Any donation made to the Bright for Will foundation is tax deductible. Our specific mission is to support the needs of children and families in our local community by providing them with opportunities they might not have, with assistance where needed and to bring BRIGHTNESS to an otherwise dark place. Examples include providing academic, athletic and recreational scholarships, acting as a silent partner to provide support to financially disadvantaged children. We have an independent board that is helping to advise and support us. We are also open to reviewing grant requests from local groups who may fit the profile and mission of the foundation. Your support of the Bright for Will Foundation is greatly appreciated!

In honor of what would be Will's 10th birthday, we wanted to take an opportunity to share that thanks to your faithful generosity, we were able to make a donation to the Methodist Home for Children to support their 1K for 1KID campaign. We truly appreciate your continued support! 🌈❤️

Even as we post this, deliveries are going out –
This is part of a bigger story, one of immense generosity. 21 years ago, a friend named Susan couldn't bear the thought of a child getting up and not having an Easter basket. She took the idea to her Sunday school class and that was that. 21 years later, the Walk in Faith class of Wrightsville United Methodist Church are still creating baskets for our children. Thank you, friends - for your love and inclusion and faithfulness and chocolate. You'll never know the far-reaching effects of this simple act.

Will's birthday seems like an excellent time to share that as a result of your generosity, we have made a donation to A Place at the Table Raleigh. This organization provides meals on a "pay as you're able" basis, which is a critical need for many during these difficult times.

As many of you know, today marks the 4th anniversary of the day we lost Will on July 9, 2015. This day has become known as "Bright for Will" day where we encourage our family and friends to practice random acts of kindness in his memory. Thanks to those of you who have reached out with words of encouragement as well as those who have shared things that you've done to make someone's life a little brighter.🌈❤️
