At RALT, land is held in trust for . Through the community land trust (CLT) model, the focus shifts from land as an individual asset to collective stewardship. RALT holds the land in trust to support long-term affordability and community stability, helping create a more equitable approach to homeownership.

This month, we bring to life with three themes that connect RALT’s work today with our vision for Raleigh’s future:

1. Sustainable Homes
The Cottages of Idlewild are being built to offer future homeowners more than an affordable place to live. They’re part of a sustainable neighborhood where energy efficiency, homeownership, and community come together.

2. Shared Prosperity
Homeownership through RALT is about more than keys and contracts. It’s about creating opportunity while contributing to a shared vision for Raleigh’s future.

3. Planning for the Future
This October, we’re celebrating not only the homes we help create, but the land we steward for lasting community benefit. Because planning for Raleigh’s future means making space for affordability, stability, and community for generations to come.

🧡 We’re all in on DAF Day!

On October 8, people everywhere are increasing the impact of their Donor-Advised Funds by giving together. If you have a DAF, this is your chance to join a nationwide wave of generosity and support RALT.

Every grant recommended through your DAF helps us keep home ownership affordable in Raleigh and Wake County by offering Shared Equity Homeownership opportunities using the Community Land Trust model. Our investments ensure that lower-income families can afford to live in their community for generations to come.

What are the steps to purchasing a home through RALT? There are a few steps involved in the process.
1. Apply
Submit your initial application to RALT.
2. Prepare
Complete credit counseling through DHIC, attend a RALT info session, and get pre-qualified for a home loan.
3. Find Your Home
Tour the Cottages of Idlewild homes you’re eligible for and work with RALT to identify your preferred home.
4. Get Approved & Close
RALT completes the final qualification and approval process. Once approved, you’ll receive a purchase contract and move forward with closing.
