BRAVO ASHEVILLE DAY CAMP
Where: Asheville, North Carolina

When: Monday, July 7 - Friday, July 11, 2025. 9-3 pm daily.

What: Jay and Nita celebrate their 15th year running summer day camp for youth with blindness and low vision. We call our campers Young Explorers. We’ll walk, ramble, listen, learn, hike, splash, and paddle in the woods and wilds around Asheville.

Who: Campers are rising K-12 graders with blindness or low vision. Instructors include certified Teachers for the Visually Impaired and Orientation & Mobility Specialists, along with a few other adventurous souls.

🧠✨ BREAKING: Neuralink’s “Blindsight” brain chip aims to restore vision for people who are completely blind — even those born without sight.

The first human trials are planned for late 2025, and the potential is HUGE. Unlike retinal implants, this chip bypasses the eyes completely and connects directly to the brain.

This could be life-changing for blind individuals and their families. 💙

BRAVO (Blue Ridge Adventures ~ Vision Optional) provides educational and enrichment opportunities for youth with blindness and low vision, with an emphasis on a life lived outdoors. The rivers, ridges, and trails of the Blue Ridge Mountains serve as our base camp, but we welcome campers from anywhere on the map: a sense of adventure and a curious heart are our chief requirements.
