The North Carolina Community Action Association (NCCAA) is the statewide association of North Carolina's 34 Community Action Agencies and four limited-purpose agencies. Community Action Agencies are the only nonprofits mandated by federal legislation to serve the poor and disadvantaged. Our agencies share a common mission: to help low-income people become self-sufficient and independent of public

programs. They are governed locally by a tripartite board of directors with one-third representation from the public sector (elected officials or their appointees) at least one-third representation of the low-income sector with the remainder from private entities.

Their team visited legislative offices representing Onslow, Duplin, New Hanover counties while sharing the impact of Community Action programs and advocating for the children, families, and communities we support every day.

Thank you to the legislators, legislative assistants, and interns who took the time to meet with us and learn more about the work happening across our region.

2026 COMMUNITY ACTION LEGISLATIVE DAY ❀️

North Carolina Community Action leaders were in Raleigh yesterday, meeting with state leaders and raising awareness of North Carolina's Community Action Network and its collective impact.

34 community action agencies serve all 100 North Carolina counties, and provide essential services related to senior services, education, transportation, housing and much more.

Thank you to our hardworking NCCAA staff for putting together Legislative Day, and also to everyone from member agencies who made the trip to Raleigh!

CAPLAW TRAINING IN ARIZONA β€” NCCAA staff and board members were in Phoenix, Arizona, this week for the CAPLAW (Community Action Program Legal Services) Training Conference.

The conference brings together leaders of Community Action Agencies across the country to navigate the legal and governance challenges they face as they deliver essential services in their communities.

Wednesday's session included an inspiring film screening of β€œI Have a Name," a documentary that follows activist photographer, Jon Linton as he accesses the private lives of people living on the streets through the simple courtesy of asking their names. After seeing Linton's photography, Adam Bronfman felt inspired to produce a film that could capture the unhoused crisis in a new light.

You can learn more about the "I Have a Name" project at https://ihaveaname.org/.

Our team is grateful for the opportunity to learn, connect, and continue educating ourselves on how to best serve our communities.
