Best Friend Pet Adoption

Best Friend Pet Adoption Best Friend Pet Adoption (BFPA) is an all-breed, all-foster (no physical shelter), dog and cat rescue

Our Mission is to give all rescued animals a chance to find their forever home, no matter their medical condition. Whether it is a senior, a pregnant mother, a heartworm positive dog, or an animal who needs immediate surgery, BFPA does not turn away or euthanize an animal due to the expense involved in returning them to good health.

Eight Ball 🖤🤍

Some kittens have a little purr.

Eight Ball has a motor.

This tuxedo boy starts rumbling the second you look at him — and once he gets going, it’s nonstop love. He’s playful, affectionate, and happiest when he’s right in the middle of whatever you’re doing.

Chasing toys? He’s in.
Climbing into boxes? Obviously.
Snuggling after playtime? Absolutely.

Eight Ball is still full of kitten energy, so he’d love a cat playmate to wrestle and zoom around with. He’s great with kids and even enjoys hanging out with the dogs in his foster home (especially the fun ones!).

If you’re looking for a confident, affectionate little sidekick who will stick by your side and fill your home with purrs, Eight Ball might be your guy.

Ready to meet him?

💜 Powered by People: Meet Leslie

My connection to BFPA started with adoption.

In 2023, we adopted our cat Maverick from PetSmart in Cary. We had just moved and were living in a hotel at the time — and BFPA generously kept fostering Maverick until we were able to move into our home. That kindness stuck with me.

Last April, when kittens showed up under our porch, we were suddenly thrust into the fostering journey. Missy, BFPA’s cat coordinator, encouraged and supported us every step of the way — even helping us TNR mama cat, who now happily lives her best life on our back porch.

We went on to foster a pair of puppies and another set of kittens before life shifted and we weren’t able to continue fostering.

That’s when I realized something important:
There’s more than one way to show up.

Using my small business design skills, I joined the social media team. Our goal is simple — create consistent content so that whenever someone comes across BFPA online, they see a thriving, active, foster-powered rescue.

As I’ve worked more behind the scenes, learning how BFPA started and how it’s grown, I’ve been consistently blown away by the impact this organization has had over the years.

Volunteers come and go. Life ebbs and flows. Not everyone can do everything all the time.

But what I’ve learned is this:
It’s not how much you can do.
It’s that you do something.

Show up consistently in whatever way your gifting allows.
Everyone has a part to play.

I’m honored to be a small part of the team.

Three words:
Consistent. Creative. Community.

Poppy 💜 (The Terrier Mix)

This Poppy has a little spark — and she’s ready for the right person to help her shine.

She’s house-trained, crate-trained, and already has a solid foundation for home life. While she’s comfortable in her crate, she much prefers being part of the action — hanging out nearby and feeling included.

Poppy has a moderate to high energy level and would love an active home. She gets excited at the start of walks (you might feel a little enthusiasm on the leash!), but she settles in quickly and enjoys getting out and exploring. A fenced yard where she can run and play would be ideal for her.

At home, she’s generally a quiet companion, only alerting when someone passes by. She’s previously lived peacefully with a cat and does well with adults. We haven’t seen her around children yet.

With other dogs, Poppy does best with thoughtful introductions and time to adjust. She may bark at unfamiliar dogs on walks, but she has made great progress. She would thrive either as your one-and-only or with an experienced owner who feels comfortable managing introductions.

What Poppy really needs is patience, stability, and someone willing to give her the chance to settle in and feel secure. In return, she’ll give you loyalty, devotion, and a bond that’s built on trust.

If you’re looking for an active, smart girl who just needs the right home to truly blossom, Poppy is ready.

Head to bfpa.org/adopt/dogs and let us know you’d like to meet Poppy. 💜

You: Love a mellow, soft life and you’re looking for the perfect companion.

Me: A soft, sweet girl who prefers a quiet environment but still enjoys a little fun.

Still sound like a match? 💜

Hi, I’m Leela — a lovely little one-eyed tabby with a big heart. My favorite things include snuggling in warm laps, enjoying tasty treats, and playing with my foster siblings when the mood strikes.

I’m happiest in a calm home where things aren’t too loud or chaotic. Older kids (pre-teen and up) would be best for me since I can get a little stressed if things get too wild. I get along fine with mellow dogs, but what I’d really love is another cat friend to cuddle and play with.

And yes — I rock the one-eyed look. It just adds to my charm.

If cozy Movie Nights, gentle companionship, and a soft purring presence sound like your vibe, I think we should meet.

Head to bfpa.org/adopt/cats and let them know you’d like to meet Leela. 🐾💜

Poppy 🤍 (the Pointer)
Some dogs have big personalities.
Poppy has a big heart.

This sweet, gentle girl is low-energy and wonderfully easygoing. She’s happiest simply being near her people — whether that’s curled up on the couch, walking calmly by your side, or quietly keeping you company around the house.

Poppy is fully house-trained and walks beautifully on leash. She truly enjoys her daily strolls, but she doesn’t need big adventures to be happy — just time with you.

She absolutely loves people and is especially gentle with children. Her calm presence makes her the kind of dog who fits beautifully into family life or a quieter home with someone looking for steady companionship.

Apartment life? She’s doing great in it.
Yard required? Nope.
She just needs regular walks and potty breaks.

Poppy can live as your one-and-only, or alongside another calm dog (especially smaller, laid-back pups). She’s also lived peacefully with cats. She does struggle with crate anxiety, so she’ll thrive in a home where she can safely stay out of a crate. She can handle about 4–5 hours alone and will greet you like you’ve been gone forever.

Every now and then you’ll see a playful zoomie burst — just enough to remind you she’s still got a little spark — but mostly, Poppy is all about love, loyalty, and quiet devotion.

If you’re looking for a steady, affectionate companion with a heart of gold, Poppy is ready to meet you. 💜

Today we pause.

We remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

At BFPA, we believe home is sacred. Safety is sacred. Comfort is sacred.

Because of sacrifice, we get to build homes, families, and communities — including for the animals in our care.

Today we honor.
Today we remember.
Today we are grateful.

From all of us at Best Friend Pet Adoption, thank you to the families who carry this day in their hearts.

📸 Cat Lovers — We Need You.

Our adoptable cats at PetSmart in Cary are waiting for their close-up… and we need volunteer photographers to help make that happen.

Here’s what it looks like:

• Go anytime PetSmart is open
• Work as a team of two
• Bring patience (cats don’t always pose on command 😉)
• A real camera is helpful — but a phone works too
• We’ll provide training and guidance

Great photos change everything.

A clear, bright image helps adopters connect. It helps personalities shine. It helps cats get noticed — and adopted.

If you love cats, enjoy photography, and want a flexible way to make a real impact, this is for you.

💜 Powered by People: Meet Nydia

Nydia has been fostering with BFPA for 10 years.

She first got involved out of gratitude — grateful for two extra years she had with her older pup. That gratitude turned into action. And that action turned into a decade of opening her home to dogs in need.

Her biggest hesitation?

Getting too attached.

And if you’ve ever fostered, you understand that feeling.

But what surprised her most wasn’t the goodbye — it was the beautiful sensation of seeing her fosters in their forever homes.

That moment when they’re safe. Loved. Settled.

She says the experience has brought her “the extreme satisfaction of helping” — and she didn’t hesitate when asked what she would tell someone considering fostering:

“Fostering is the most beautiful and fulfilling help you can ever provide.”

Three words she uses to describe it:

Love.
Self-love.
Satisfying.

Rescue is powered by people like Nydia — people who open their homes and hearts, even knowing goodbye is part of the journey.

It takes a village. 💜

Since 1998, BFPA has been powered by people who choose to show up.

150+ core volunteers.
Hundreds of cats and dogs adopted each year.
TNVR efforts supporting community cats.
Thousands of lives impacted over decades.

Behind every number is a foster home.
A transport ride.
A late-night vet visit.
A donor who said yes.
A volunteer who didn’t quit.

Rescue isn’t built overnight.
It’s built year after year by ordinary people doing what they can.

That’s the village.
