✈️ Right now, 12 people from the Alliance Française of Raleigh are in Lyon.

🚶‍➡️ They walked the old city. Visited the silk workshops.

👨‍🍳 Cooked with a French chef.

🫘 Sat down in a local "bouchon" restaurant.

🥐 Tried the pastries.

Spent a day in Annecy, a small city on a lake, with the Alps behind it.

Small group. Personal visits, with people who open their doors and tell their story.

Next one is already booked.

March 20 to 27. Aix-en-Provence.

Farmers markets. Lavender fields. Savon de Marseille. Petanques in every square.

And the food. Local products. Regional specialties. Long lunches on café terraces, where nobody is in a hurry.

The program mixes French language and culture, food discoveries, and excursions into the Provençal countryside. You learn. You taste. You walk. You listen.

Beginner or advanced, the idea is the same. Live the language instead of studying it.

With a small group, you are not a number. You talk with the locals. You ask questions. You take your time.

Our October calendar brings together language, culture and community. Here is what is coming up.

Saturday, October 3: Café
10:00am to 12:00pm. French Cultural Center, 6320 Pleasant Pines Drive, Raleigh.
Casual French conversation with fellow members. Coffee and tea provided, and the library is open. In French. No registration required.

Sunday, October 4: Balade en français
11:00am to 12:00pm. Umstead State Park, Sal's Branch Trail (Crabtree entrance).
A 2.5-mile loop through pines and hardwoods, starting at the Visitor Center. Leashed dogs welcome. In French. May be canceled in case of rain.

Saturday, October 10: Yoga en français
10:00am to 11:30am. French Cultural Center.
A 90-minute all-levels workshop taught entirely in French. No yoga experience needed, basic French preferred. $25 members, $35 non-members.

Sunday, October 11: Ciné-Club
4:00pm to 6:00pm. French Cultural Center.
Screening of Le Tourbillon de la Vie (Julias in English), a film about chance and the paths not taken. In French with English subtitles. Free, limited to 20 seats.

Thursday, October 15: Wilmington Apéro
5:30pm to 7:00pm. Caprice Bistro, 10 Market St, Wilmington.
A French take on happy hour. Bilingual, open to all. Registration required, bar seating limited to 15.

Saturday, October 17: Pétanque Contest
9:30am to 12:00pm. French Cultural Center.
Rescheduled from October 3. Panaché format: partners are drawn at random for each game. No experience needed. Bilingual. $10 per person. Limited space. Registration closes October 16 at 10:00am.

Sunday, October 18: Watercolors with Lynda
2:00pm to 4:00pm. French Cultural Center.
Fall leaves and hand lettering with instructor Lynda Chambers. No experience needed. In English. $45 members, $65 non-members.

Friday, October 30: W**e Tasting
6:00pm to 7:00pm. French Cultural Center.
Six Burgundy w**es (3 reds, 3 whites) led by Laurent Drouhin, a Burgundy-born w**e expert. Bilingual. $30 members, $40 non-members. Limited to 12 participants.

A few spots are still available for Yoga en Français! This welcoming 90-minute workshop is taught entirely in French, so you can stretch your body, practice your French, and relax your mind - all at once.

A basic understanding of French is preferred, but no yoga experience is needed. True beginners are welcome!

Led by Zabeth, a Belgium-born certified yoga therapist and owner of ZYogaGuide, whose calm and supportive style makes it easy to follow along, even when your French is a little rusty!
