Back-to-School Readiness: 5 Essential Tips for NC Families

As summer winds down across North Carolina, let's make sure our students are prepared for a successful and confident return to the classroom! Whether your child has already started school for 2026-2027 or starts in a few weeks, preparation goes a long way.

1. ⏰ Re-establish Daily Routines Early
Don't wait for the first day of school to set the alarm clock! Shift bedtimes and wake-up times back by 15–30 minutes each day starting 1–2 weeks before school begins. Consistent sleep is one of the biggest factors in daytime focus and emotional well-being.

2. 📋 Complete Required Health & Enrollment Forms
Ensure all immunization records, health forms, and contact updates are submitted to your local school district. Having your emergency contact info up-to-date ensures you never miss crucial school notifications or emergency updates.

3. 🎒 Organize a "Launchpad" at Home
Designate a specific spot near the entryway or in a quiet corner for backpacks, lunchboxes, and important papers. Setting up this habit now eliminates morning rush stress and helps kids learn organization skills early.

4. 🗣️ Talk Openly About Feelings & Expectations
Back-to-school season brings excitement, but it can also bring anxiety about new teachers, harder classes, or social changes. Ask open-ended questions like, "What are you most curious about this year?" or "Is there anything you feel nervous about?" validating their feelings builds trust and confidence.

5. 🤝 Connect with Your Local PTA
When parents and schools partner together, students thrive! Joining your school’s PTA is the single easiest way to stay informed, advocate for your child, and support your school community.

Get involved: Visit your local PTA’s table during orientation or Open House, or check out the NCPTA Website to learn how you can make a difference this year!

Wishing all North Carolina students, families, and educators a fantastic, safe, and inspiring school year!

Only 3 Months Until Election Day-November 3, 2026

The decisions made at the ballot box directly shape the future of our children, schools, and communities across North Carolina. As a nonpartisan organization, NCPTA encourages every parent, educator, and family member to make their voice heard this fall!

3 Quick Steps to Get :
Check Your Registration: Have you moved or changed your name recently? Verify your voter registration status today so there are no surprises on Election Day.

Mark Your Calendar:
Election Day: Tuesday, November 3, 2026

Early Voting Period: October 15 – October 31, 2026

Make Your Voting Plan: Decide when and where you’ll vote—whether that's taking advantage of early voting, voting by mail, or heading to your polling place on November 3rd.

Remember: PTA is nonpartisan, but we are passionate advocates for children! Every vote cast is an investment in public education, student success, and healthy communities.

Need to check your status or find your local polling place? Visit the North Carolina State Board of Elections or check out resources on the NCPTA Website.
