As we prepare for graduation ceremonies this weekend, we want to take the time to celebrate three of our graduating Class 23 fellows who have recently been honored at Duke and UNC!

1) Nishchhal Kharal received the 2026 Forever Duke Student Leadership Award, which recognizes students who are strong advocates for the Duke community, who embody Duke's guiding principle of knowledge in service to society, and who are leaving Duke a better place than they found it.

2) As the co-president of the International Graduate Student Association at the Gillings School of Global Public Health at UNC, Hanan Abafita has been selected as a student speaker for the school's commencement ceremony, which will take place this Saturday at the Dean Smith Center.

3) Mohammed Fakhry has received the Irving and Joan Rimer Scholarship at the Gillings School. He was recognized for his academic excellence and commitment to the values of public health as well as his engagement with diverse perspectives and communities during his two years of study.
