The North Carolina State Auditor is attempting to make voting harder in 2026. Board of Elections in Black and brown dominate counties, like Granville, are closing down popular voting sites. Fight back against voter disenfranchisement by submitting public comment by Aug. 17th (link in bio) and/or attending the state meeting in Raleigh on Aug. 20th.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Down Home N.C. members endorse these candidates for North Carolina Court of Appeals:
John S. Arrowood
Christine Walczky
Toby Hampson

The Court of Appeals shapes North Carolina’s laws and its work is essential to maintaining a fair and balanced statewide judicial system.

Co-governance is an action. The work does not stop with an endorsement and will not stop with re-election. We plan to hold all accountable to fairness and equity in their judgements.

"To Zeller, dissent isn’t just a rebuttal. It’s a refusal to accept the status quo of deregulation and systemic unraveling, threatening the mountains and the people he calls home and family."

🚨WIN ALERT! 🚨A massive shoutout to our incredible JoCo team! They absolutely knocked it out of the park by showing exactly how decisions made at the state level directly hit our local county budget. This is what working class power looks like in action!

ANNOUNCEMENT: Down Home North Carolina’s membership has voted to endorse Justice Anita Earls for re-election to the North Carolina Supreme Court. We need a working class champion in the highest court in North Carolina and she is it.

Co-governance is an action. The work does not stop with an endorsement and won’t stop when we re-elect her. We plan to hold her accountable to fairness and equity in her judgements.

As another hurricane season gets underway, we’re looking back at how neighbors all over NC have showed up for one another. Helene hit Western NC—and how folks looked out for one another. Families and volunteers didn't hesitate to step up and help rebuild. Around here, we do our part. We just need oOur leaders to do theirs, too.

Michael Whatley was tapped by Donald Trump to lead the recovery effort after Helene. Well, it’s been over a year now, and our communities are still waiting on that federal recovery funding folks were promised. Billions of dollars are being withheld, while everyday families, local schools, and small businesses are just keeping their heads down, doing the hard work of rebuilding day by day.

Y'all spoke up loud and clear about Duke Energy's proposed rate hikes, and it actually made a real difference. Thanks to everyday North Carolinians making their voices heard alongside state leaders, Duke has agreed to drop that requested hike from 18% down to 11.6%.

ORGANIZING WORKS. This is our sign to keep pushing to stop this rate hike altogether!

Let’s talk about HB 958. This bill adds unnecessary obstacles for voters, from complicated signature checks to strict new photo ID rules for our military members serving abroad. Our votes are our power, and we need to protect them!

📢 We need your voice! The legislature is listening to public feedback right now. Click the link in the comments to drop a quick public comment and let them know North Carolinians stand for voting access. Let’s make sure they hear us loud and clear!
