The activities of the Smith County, MS Genealogical Society include the study of genealogy in Smith County, Mississippi, and surrounding areas, the further education of those persons interested in the field of genealogy, the conduct of scholarly genealogical research, and the preservation of the records of past and present life in this area.

The February 12, 2022, meeting of the Smith County Genealogical Society has been canceled due to so many of our member being ill.

The Smith County Genealogical Society will hold the first meeting of the 2022 year on Saturday, January the 8th beginning at 10:00 a.m. The meeting will be held in the Raleigh Library/City Hall Conference Room in Raleigh.

After not having a meeting for several months, the Smith County Genealogical Society will resume meetings beginning Saturday, November 13, 2021. Our meetings are held at the Raleigh Library/City Hall Conference Room and begin at 10:00 a.m. If you are interested in tracing your Smith County roots, please come and join us.

Due to so many of members or family members being ill, our September 11, 2021 meeting has been canceled. Hope we can meet the second Saturday of October.

Smith County Genealogical Society Meeting

Due to all the warnings and precautions sent from the Mississippi Department of Health regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) and after talking to several members of the Society, we will CANCEL the Society Meeting on Saturday, March 14, 2020. I understand that a lot of the information is from people panicking, but I also know that most of our members have some sort of medical problems and we do not want to put them at risk.

Take care of yourself and we hope to see you at our April meeting.

The Smith County Genealogical Society will hold its meeting on Saturday, February 8, 2020, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The meeting will be held in the Raleigh Library/City Hall Conference Room. Members are encouraged to attend, visitors are always welcomed.

Due to the prediction of bad weather for tomorrow, Saturday, January 11, 2020, we will cancel our Genealogical Society Meeting. We want everyone to stay safe during the bad weather and not be on the road. Hope to see you at next month's meeting.

The Smith County Genealogical Society Meeting that was scheduled for November 9, 2019, has been canceled due to the Raleigh Festival. We will have a booth at the Festival, so come by and visit with us as we Salute our Smith County Veterans. All of our publication, including the four volumes of “A Tribute to Smith County Veterans, Lest we Forget” will be available for sale at our booth.

The meeting of the Smith County Genealogical Society will be held Saturday, September 14, 2019, beginning at 10:00 a.m. the meeting will be held in the Raleigh Library/City Hall Conference Room. We will begin a study of the old Post Offices in Smith County. Everyone is welcome to come and join in the discussion.

Are you researching ancestors in Smith County, Mississippi. If so, come and meet with us at the Smith County Genealogical Society. Also, you can take advantage of the many Smith County reference books available at the Raleigh Library which is open from 9:00 a.m. until 12 noon on our meeting days, the second Saturday of each month. Our next meeting will be held in the Raleigh Library/City Hall Conference Room on September 14, 2019, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend.
