TeAM in Action!
Investing in the people who lead our nonprofit sector isn’t just a good idea, it’s how we ensure our communities thrive.

Today, our own Bert Armstrong is honored to be in New Bern, facilitating an executive directors panel for the Craven Community College 4th Annual Professional Development Day. Put on by the Nonprofit Council and the New Bern Area Chamber of Commerce, this event brings together dedicated leaders who are doing the work of strengthening eastern North Carolina.

Times of transition and growth require strong foundations, and we love seeing organizations lean into professional development to build long-term capacity. Thank you to the New Bern Chamber and Craven Community College for hosting such an impactful day.

Choosing to collaborate rather than build everything yourself is one of the most powerful moves a nonprofit can make to expand its impact.

On the latest episode of the Your Path to Nonprofit Leadership podcast, Dr. Patton McDowell, MBA, CFRE McDowell sits down with Marcia (Donziger) Beckner, Founder and CEO of Culture CARES® Global. Marcia shares what she learned when she merged her foundation into a larger organization, choosing partnership as a way to better serve her community.

As they discuss, the real secret to a successful partnership lies in culture. Marcia introduces her CARES® framework to show how leaders can build psychological safety, honor both teams and successfully integrate into one healthy organization.

If you are looking at ways to truly scale your mission alongside others, this conversation is an essential listen: https://www.armstrongmcguire.com/podcast/the-culture-work-no-one-warns-you-about-in-a-nonprofit-merger

Behind every number is a story

On a quiet drive home from the beach, Becky Bumgardner's mother turned to her and said, "That was my last trip."

Her only request had been simple: to feel the ocean on her feet one more time. Those words have stuck with Becky, serving as a powerful reminder of what really motivates generosity.

As nonprofit leaders, we get busy with the daily demands of running an organization. Naturally, we focus on budgets, campaigns and administrative tasks, almost forgetting that people don't give just because we need money. They give to make human moments possible.

If you need a reminder of why we do this work, take a few minutes to read Becky's moving reflection.

You know a relationship has evolved into a true partnership 🤝 when the lines between your organization and an outside team disappears. Instead of managing separate checklists, everyone starts pulling in the same direction, sharing the stakes and winning together.

This week our partner Michael Ussery from Brand Engine Creative Branding Agency looks back at eight years of working with our team, breaking down what it takes to get that level of alignment with consultants, donors and board members.

Authentic relationships are at the heart of the educational experience at Charlotte Preparatory School.

As the school experiences meaningful momentum and increasing enrollment, they are seeking a strategic, relationship-first leader to join their senior leadership team as Director of Philanthropy.

This role offers a rare opportunity to establish a formal major gifts program and donor pipeline from an early-stage foundation. Serving as a key strategist and storyteller, the next Director will work to expand philanthropic reach in a way that honors the school’s values-centered community.

We are looking for an experienced builder who can connect intentionally with parents, alumni and community supporters to position this close-knit school for long-term sustainability.

Learn more about the role and qualifications through the Armstrong McGuire leadership portal: https://jobs.armstrongmcguire.com/jobs/director-of-philanthropy-charlotte-preparatory-school-1517/
