Layers of Dignity is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides tote bags filled with new clothing, toiletries, resource information, and handwritten support letters to survivors of sexual assault being seen in emergency rooms and advocacy centers across central North Carolina.

Today we celebrate National Nonprofit Day, and we’re using it to talk about why organizations like Layers of Dignity exist in the first place.

Survivors of sexual assault deserve advocates, resources, and a community that believes them. That work doesn’t run on good intentions alone. It runs on people who choose to give, whether that’s time, dollars, or simply sharing our mission with someone who needs to hear it.

This little office is where a lot of big things happen.

It’s where survivor bags are packed, volunteer events are planned, partnerships are built, and ideas become reality. We’ve come a long way, and we’re looking for people who want to help shape what comes next.

We’re looking for new members to join the Layers of Dignity Board of Directors.

We’re especially looking for people with experience in fundraising, marketing, grant writing, finance, healthcare, technology, business, or community partnerships. You don’t need nonprofit experience to make a meaningful impact.

We can’t stop thinking about Saturday night🤍

Our second annual Dignity Dinner was such a meaningful evening, full of connection, generosity, and people who truly care about this work. Seeing so many of you show up, take part in the silent auction, and support survivors in such a tangible way meant more than we can fully put into words.

Because of you, we raised $10,481 to continue showing up for survivors when they need it most.

We’re so grateful for this community, for our sponsors, board members, and every single person who made the night what it was.

At Layers of Dignity, we stand with survivors to honor their strength, their stories, and their right to heal on their own terms.

Sexual violence affects millions, yet it is often met with silence, stigma, and misunderstanding.

This month, we’re committed to raising awareness, amplifying survivor voices, and advocating for a world where dignity, safety, and respect are non-negotiable.

Healing looks different for everyone. Whether it’s through community, creativity, or quiet moments of self-care, every step forward matters.

We invite you to: • Listen without judgment • Become a monthly donor • Educate yourself and others • Speak up against harmful narratives

Together, we can create spaces where survivors feel seen, heard, and supported; not just in April, but every day.
