Today, Betty has one last chance to fight like crazy and live to see another day. She is in surgery now. The vet is really kind and we share many similarities. She is the only vet out of everyone I contacted about Betty that actually said, “you know the risks?” Then, we set the plan in motion.

Betty’s mass, though not measuring much larger, looks much larger because it’s become more solid in a large marble shape. Maybe that’s good and will make the surgery easier. I’m so scared.

Scared like I was for Easter a decade ago when this silly rescue farm started. Betty is just different. She talks to me and lets me know things- like she felt sick and like lying down at the vet. Maybe the car ride made her sick. She comes over and demands your attention and makes it clear that she very smart. She’s is the matriarch of the four rats here and though very small compared to the other softball rats. They all grew up together.

Life is better with rats. Betty is my therapist, my best friend and my adventure-rat! Here’s to hoping she stays strong and chooses to continue to fight this stupid benign mass and watch it get thrown in the trash today. YOU GOT THIS, BETTY!!!! 🩷💥

I am so scared.

Care to help with the massive bills that Betty has accumulated? If so, huge thanks for the kindness!

Hello (insert unwavering exhaustion, a glimmer of hope and more exhaustion), it’s been a long time since we really spoke. I feel like the only time I write to you guys is when I need something. Just like my 8 year old, bringer of happiness and complete destruction as the Leader of the Chaos Realm.

This time it isn’t even about a cat!!!

Listen closely.

I NEED YOUR HELP.

Unfortunately, I cannot wait long for your help so it has to be now or asap. I know, I know, I’m a pain.

This is Betty. Her formal name is Baby Betty Blue. She was a “male” feeder rat.

I needed a rat to be friends with one I was fostering that lost her best friend that day. I stopped at some hole-in-the-wall pet shop, the kind that still sells animals. So I asked if they had rats.

They only carried male feeder rats that arrived by truck every Thursday. The clerk brought out the only rat they had. It was very small but it was the only one so I took it. I popped the container open just enough to let HER peek out. The supplier made a mistake and sent a female rat. We were instant best friends— the same kind of bond I had with Easter when I met her, too.

It’s getting close to her first birthday and I want it to be what every little brave rat wants. See, Betty has a major but very common (in rats) problem. Betty has a mass growing on her neck. She’s had a CT Scan, biopsies, pain meds and antibiotics for an apparent ear infection on the same side as the tumor which is curious. The REALLY GOOD NEWS is that it’s benign. Of coarse that doesn’t matter when it’s growing so fast and will affect her getting around, breathing and eating/drinking.

I need your help finding someone skilled in removing rat masses/tumors. She deserves more time and I will be very broken over the rat that changed my life’s death. I would make her immortal if I could. I would sacrifice some of my health, though it isn’t much better than Betty’s.

Betty also has a permanent virus kind of like what cats get with feline herpes and calici.

This is my last ditch effort. Nobody will help her. I have paperwork from the ct scan and biopsy.

Alright. Second time I’m gonna write all of this out. If Facebook makes it disappear or it doesn’t post know how completely over life I am right now.

Update: Emma did okay in surgery. It is either a benign type of fatty breast tumor or aggressive cancer. They are sending off the biopsy.

Update #2: Emma crashed and they are performing cpr. Each time is $200.

Update #3: Emma died. 😭😭😭😭

Ratsy and I will always love you. I am so so sorry. I am heartbroken. I’d just adopted them from the shelter December 30th. Not even 3 months ago.

Emma the sweet little ratty baby is at the hospital to have her mass assessed. It is at least 3 times the size it was last time I updated y’all. I am so sad for her. She is having immediate surgery to remove the cancer though it may have spread. They will check for that and we may choose euthanasia if it’s the kindest approach. BUT I told them to try like hell to save her. I have no idea how much this will cost but I had to pay $85 just to hold the appointment so I’m going to guess $3000. Wanna help?

Select “friends and family” so I do not have to pay a fee, pretty please!

Please send your best vibes to Emma, the grey and white rat. She has very suddenly developed a huge mass on her shoulder area. We’re at the vet. She brought her bff Ratsy the Great White Rat. I hope it’s not cancer.
