What can you create when the clock is ticking? ⏱️💡
Students at Athens Drive High School got a chance to find out during an interactive design challenge with a panel of entrepreneurs and professionals!
Students were given one of four real-world problems to solve — with a limited amount of time, specific requirements, and the challenge of working as a team. Then came the big moment: each team had to deliver an elevator pitch and present their solution.
The results? Creative, unexpected, and sometimes downright fun! Students designed inventions including a backpack tracker, a solo frisbee game, and even a bunny purse. 🐰🎒🥏
Along the way, students experienced firsthand what it means to:
✨ Work within time constraints
✨ Listen to requirements and solve a specific problem
✨ Collaborate with a team
✨ Think creatively when there isn't one "right" answer
✨ Communicate an idea clearly and confidently
Our panel brought a variety of entrepreneurial and professional perspectives to the conversation: Sara Smith, Alex Melendez, Sebastian Noble, and Daniel Ga***rd.
And we didn't stop at the design challenge!
The day wrapped up with a Lunch & Learn, giving students interested in entrepreneurship the opportunity to ask questions, hear real-world perspectives, and learn more about what it takes to turn an idea into something bigger.
Sometimes the best way to learn entrepreneurship is to roll up your sleeves, start solving, and see what you can create. 🚀

🎉 Please join us in welcoming Anna Beilinson to the Junior Achievement of Eastern North Carolina Board of Directors!

Anna is no stranger to JA—she has also volunteered in the classroom, bringing her passion for helping students learn and grow directly to our programs.

Anna lives in Raleigh with her husband, Georg, and their two children, Gray (4) and Evie. She spent most of her career in accounting, specializing in internal controls and SOX compliance, before recently transitioning to a business development role with Vaco. There, she partners with organizations to understand their staffing needs and connect them with qualified interim and project-based talent.

Outside of work, Anna enjoys reading, discovering new local restaurants, and cheering on NC State. Go Pack! 🐺

Volunteers Needed in Greenville, NC!

Junior Achievement of Eastern North Carolina is looking for volunteers to help teach Financial Literacy and Work and Career Readiness to students at Wellcome Middle School in Greenville, NC. The program runs November 2–December 14, with sessions held twice each week across four classrooms. Volunteers can sign up for one or more sessions based on their availability.

Classroom Schedule:

7th Grade: 11:10–11:50 AM
7th Grade: 11:50 AM–12:30 PM
8th Grade: 1:20–2:05 PM
8th Grade: 2:05–2:50 PM

You don’t have to be available for every session to make an impact. Every hour you give can help a student build the knowledge, confidence, and skills they need for their future.

🎉 Please join us in welcoming Abigail Younis to the Junior Achievement of Eastern North Carolina Board of Directors!

Abigail has been part of the JA family for nearly a decade, and we’re thrilled to welcome her into this new leadership role. Over the years, she has coordinated and recruited volunteer teams through EY’s Raleigh office, connecting colleagues with opportunities to support JA and helping strengthen EY’s longstanding partnership with our mission. She has also previously served on the JAENC Young Professionals Board.

Abigail is a Senior Manager in the Assurance practice at Ernst & Young (EY), where she serves SEC clients across a variety of industries, focusing on financial reporting, accounting, and business matters while leading high-performing teams. A Certified Public Accountant in North Carolina, she is passionate about mentoring future leaders, fostering collaboration, and creating opportunities for professional growth.

Abigail earned her Master of Science in Accountancy from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and lives in Raleigh.

🖍️Round up this month at Staples to support JA!

This back-to-school season, Staples is partnering with Junior Achievement to support students through its programs that provide access to mentorship, life-changing educational experiences, career-connected learning, and more. Staples is running a Back-to-School Round-Up Campaign in stores now through August 29, 2026.

Customers can round up their purchases at checkout in Staples stores, with donations benefiting Junior Achievement and its mission to help young people become confident, capable, and connected to what the world has to offer.

This is how we roll!

The 2026 Accountants Classic Bowlathon on Friday, August 7, was a huge success. Accounting professionals from several area firms raised $20,882.85 to support our work for the 2026-27 school year.

It was the 15th year of the peer-to-peer fundraising event with $15,000 raised from individual giving, thanks to participants who met or exceeded their fundraising goals. Their successful effort this year raised the most overall funds of any event since the end of the COVID era.
