In case you missed it.....

This past Sunday, May 3, Capital Area Preservation and the Wake County Historic Preservation Commission hosted the Wake County Preservation Celebration at Good Hope Baptist Church, where both the church and American Legion Cedric Harris Post 148—two newly designated historic landmarks—were presented with their landmark plaques. More than 200 were in attendance for this special occasion!

The WCHPC also unveiled the next installment of its roadside marker program with a marker highlighting the history of the Shotwell African American community.

Special thanks to Don Mial, Chair of the Wake County Board of Commissioners, for joining us and sharing his personal memories of growing up in the Shotwell community, adding a meaningful and heartfelt connection to the day’s celebration of preservation, history, and community.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped make this special event possible, especially the members of Good Hope Baptist Church and the many volunteers, supporters, and community members who joined us in celebrating Wake County’s rich historic heritage!

Happy New Year! Just before Christmas, the WCHPC and CAP, along with the Town of Zebulon, cut the ribbons dedicating two new historical roadside markers to recognize two significant African American sites in Zebulon: Wakefield-Zebulon Rosenwald School and the Mt. Pisgah Prince Hall Masonic Lodge #65! We were honored to be a part of this dedication. Both Zebulon Mayor Glenn York and WCHPC Chair Ed Morris were featured speakers. Proud to dedicate the first 2 markers in the WCHPC’s new roadside marker program!

Due to unforeseen circumstances, CAP has had to make the difficult decision to postpone this year's Anthemion Awards, scheduled for September 23, to next year. We have notified all of those that have submitted projects for consideration over the last two months. Those submissions will be reviewed next year with a slew of new ones, so please keep submitting projects to be considered for the 2025 Anthemion Awards! Thanks so much for your understanding!
