Congratulations May Mitchell M.Ed, ECMH-E®, Early Childhood Family Specialist!
May Mitchell lives in the Triangle region of North Carolina. She currently works at Triangle Area Parenting Support, where she supports families with children ages 6 months to 5 years old. In May's role, she facilitates Circle of Security Parenting groups, supporting caregivers in building strong, secure relationships with their children. She has also been trained in the Circle of Security Classroom model and looks forward to opportunities to bring that work into early childhood education settings.
May holds a master’s degree in Counseling Education and has spent much of her career working alongside children, caregivers, and educators in a variety of community and counseling spaces. Earlier in her adult life, May worked at the Orange County R**e Crisis Center before returning to graduate school, an experience that deeply shaped her commitment to supporting individuals and families with care and respect.
May is passionate about working to interrupt and transform intersectional systemic oppression so that all children, families, and communities have the opportunity to thrive.
"I pursued endorsement through the North Carolina Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Association because it aligns with both my professional work and my core values. In my role at Triangle Area Parenting Support, I partner with caregivers of young children through the Circle of Security Parenting program, creating space for reflection and supporting them in building the tools needed for healthy attachment. I am consistently seeking opportunities to deepen my practice, and the endorsement process offered a structured framework for professional development, reflective work, and connection with a broader community of practitioners committed to young children and their families.
The endorsement process has already had a meaningful impact on my professional role. Access to reflective supervision through NCIMHA has strengthened my capacity for self-awareness, attunement, and relationship-based practice, all central to this work. It has enhanced the way I show up with caregivers, helping me bring greater presence, curiosity, and steadiness as I support them in their own growth. The process has also expanded my understanding of infant and early childhood mental health, which has deepened the quality of my work with families during these foundational years. I am also incredibly grateful for the opportunity to pursue the reflective supervision consultation.
I am committed to working alongside communities to disrupt and reshape intersectional systemic oppression so that all children and families have equitable opportunities to thrive. The endorsement's emphasis on equity, cultural humility, and reflective practice has sharpened my ability to approach this work with greater intention and accountability, centering the wellbeing of both children and the adults who care for them." ~May
Thank you for dedication and obtaining your endorsement credential through, NCIMHA, May!
