ANNOUNCING: 2027 4-H Outbound Exchange Programs!

This is your opportunity to have an amazing summer experience immersed in a new language and culture while living with a host family in a different country.

Applications open September 1 and are due November 1. Applications include essay questions and reference letters, so DO NOT WAIT until the last minute! Candidates who successfully complete the application will be interviewed between Nov 1-Dec 15. Age is counted as of the date of departure.

-Japan 8-week, ages 15-18, June 9-Aug 6
-Japan 4-week, ages 12-18, July 7-Aug 6
-Norway, ages 15-18, June 17-July 17
-Costa Rica, ages 15-18, June 24-July 23
-Taiwan, ages 12-18, June 30-July 30
-South Korea, ages 12-18, July 7-Aug 6

Chaperones are also needed for all trips. Chaperones must be 21 or older, have international travel or living abroad experience, experience working with youth, and current or former 4-H involvement (staff/volunteer/alumni).

Between Tuesday and Thursday last week, all of our Summer Inbound delegates from Japan and South Korea arrived in NC! Some of them were able to join us at NC 4-H Congress for a few days and interact with 4-Hers from all across the state (check out the video below of 4-Hers learning a traditional Japanese dance called Soranbushi!). Others were met directly at the airports by their host families.

Over the weekend, everyone had a chance to settle in with their host families, some relaxing at home, and others touring local sites like Bodie lighthouse or visiting a farmer's market. We can't wait to hear more about the adventures of all of our delegates and host families over the next 2.5 weeks!

Today our final Outbound group arrived in South Korea! They will stay overnight in the Korea 4-H Center before meeting their host families and heading off into a fantastic month of cultural immersion. We're proud and excited for Emma, Lilly, and Chaperone Rob to represent NC 4-H abroad and experience all that South Korea has to offer!

Over the past few days, more NC 4-Hers have arrived in Japan and Argentina for their 4-week Outbound Exchange programs! We're proud to have Jamey, Kate, and Natalie representing NC in Argentina, and how exciting for them and their host families to get to celebrate Argentina's national soccer team competing in the semifinals of the FIFA World Cup!

We're equally proud and excited for Josh, Anna, Adelaide, Koreigh, and Joannabella to represent NC in Japan over the next 4 weeks! They'll be immersing themselves in daily life with their host families, attending Labo and Lex summer camps, and getting to experience the rich history and culture of Japan!

The first part of the Japan 8-week Outbound Program is drawing to a close! Tomorrow, our 4-week program delegates will join them in Tokyo for an overnight orientation, and then everyone from both programs will meet their new host families! Enjoy some photos from the cultural experiences shared by the 8-week program delegates.
