The Raleigh Immigrant Story

The Raleigh Immigrant Community started with the P2W curriculum, which focuses on social support, coping skills, and psycho-education for newly resettled refugees. We are aware that resettled refugees and immigrants face a myriad of difficulties to integrating in American life, including obtaining housing, employment, insurance, education, as well as any co-occurring mental health challenges.

Since its inception in January 2015, they perceive their depravity of opportunities as their skills and certifications from their home countries are undervalued and unrecognized, they also possess tangible skills that are currently untapped and could greatly contribute to their communities wellbeing. Regarding the importance of those barriers the group had transitioned from the curriculum to an open forum where group members direct the conversation and action.

They advocate for their needs as well as for other refugees across the state, with the overall goal to achieve self-sufficiency and specific focus on improved employment, education, housing, and, interpretation, and case management.

In May 2016 we became a non-profit, tax exempt 501(C)(3) community-based organization. Since 2016, RIC works closely public and private sectors to serve refugees and immigrants in different communities. Our mission is to facilitate the social and economic empowerment of refugees and immigrants regardless of race, age, religion, sexual orientation etc. in the State of North Carolina.
