Everyone deserves room to grow. Through Haven House's School-Based Diversion program, middle and high school students who make a mistake at school get support instead of a court date. Each student works with our team to create a contract built around their needs, which might include counseling, mentoring, family support, or participating in youth programs. When they complete it, they move forward with new skills and a fresh start. Jordan* recently finished the program, and the school resource officer who referred him shared this:

“I’m genuinely happy to hear how far Jordan has come over the past six months. Seeing him follow through on his commitments, complete his contract, get involved with high school sports, and stay focused on academics is exactly the kind of outcome we hope for when we give a student an opportunity like this.

Please let Jordan and his family know that I’m proud of the work he has put in and hope he understands how much this accomplishment means. I also want to thank you personally for the time, consistency, and effort you’ve invested in him. Your work has clearly made a difference, and I truly appreciate the partnership.

This is a great reminder of why these programs matter.”

Meet Nicole, one of our fall interns. This week she helped us put away our weekly donation from Whole Foods Market. Our Essentials Pantry provides food, personal care products, and other everyday basics to youth and families in our programs. Affording and/or accessing fresh food can be a challenge for some of the families we work with, and this steady support lets the pantry offer perishable items such as produce, dairy, and pre-prepared meals alongside shelf-stable basics.

Thank you, TURNSTILE. The band donated $1 from every ticket sold at last week's Red Hat Amphitheater show to support Haven House, and we're grateful to PLUS1 for helping make it happen. Staff members Makenna and Emmy and Youth Ambassador Beckham were there to meet fans and share how we help young people in our community.

Take a minute to learn the warning signs, especially in young people. Many overlap with symptoms of depression.

Watch for:

Changes in eating or sleeping habits
Losing interest in normal activities or school
Withdrawing from friends and family
Acting out or running away
Alcohol or drug use
Neglecting personal appearance
Unnecessary risk-taking
Talking or thinking a lot about death
Physical complaints like stomachaches, headaches, or fatigue
Trouble focusing
Saying they want to die
Not responding to praise or good news
