Bushel & A Peck Dog Rescue

Bushel & A Peck Dog Rescue We are a non profit dog rescue whose mission is to find the "misunderstood" dogs of NC a forever home. Some facilities still use gas chambers.

We work to not only help the dogs in need but the brave veterans who will benefit from the unconditional love of a dog. North Carolina has the highest euthanization rate in the country. Over 50% of dogs are put down, and most of them are bully breeds, rottweilers, shepherds and other not as "desirable" dogs. Due to the number of dogs being put down, rescues and fosters are over capacity as they tr

y to find homes for those dogs who they have seized out of the shelters. This doesn't even include the dogs who are abandoned on the side of the road, chained to trees, abused, and any other type of horrific treatment. North Carolina is also known as the most "military friendly state." Home to Army base Fort Bragg, Marine Base, Camp Lejeune, Johnson Air Force base, and many others, veterans continue to live here after their contracts are up. The work the VA does is extraordinary, but there are so many veterans, that the process starts to take longer than expected. It has been proven that animals, especially dogs, have healing powers and can help cure people suffering from anxiety, loneliness, PTSD, depression and stress. For our veterans, who have fought bravely for our country, the interaction with an animal who is happy to love and not judge, who is a constant companion and looks up to people for a second chance in life, Bushel & A Peck is the place for them to come and spend time with the dogs, helping, loving and maybe even adopting. At the moment, due to a lack of a facility (we're on the hunt! Now, we just need a millionaire investor...) we are working with other rescues and foster programs to help find dogs homes and raise necessary funds. We have recently submitted our 501C3 and hope to become a certified non profit in the next 8 months.

Well this is just perfect.

Well this is just perfect.

The truth is we're all capable of a hurting someone tremendously. But we're also all capable of loving someone tremendously. We're capable of helping, healing, and accepting someone. Pit bulls are no different.

For the hundreds of people who email me saying that they are having a new baby and can't keep their dog...

Also, to clarify: we absolutely do try and help as many dogs as we can. However we are NOT a shelter. We focus on the abused, mistreated and abandoned dogs. We are not a group you can email because 1. You're moving and need is to find a new home for your dog 2. Having a baby and have decided "a dog is too much" 3. Can't train your dog so you want us to do it 4. Have an aggressive dog that tries to bite other dogs and people and want us to fix the problem.
We know there are so many hard decisions to be made in life, but when you commit to having a dog, that baby is a part of your family. And we are not your "quick fix." I'm sorry if you feel guilty about having to bring your dog to a shelter, so instead you berate us into trying to take your dog. Maybe you could try to find a solution, work on NOT feeling guilty about taking your dog to the shelter, and instead focus on a way to create a positive outcome.

Have a wonderful, dog filled Thursday!

A child’s development can often be accelerated by daily interactions with the family pet. Their young minds grow a great deal through their social and emotional bonds. Instead of providing scientific facts to backup this theory, here are 22 photos that without a doubt prove that it’s true.

We are so excited to announce that Cadence started her two week adoption trial today! Her potential daddy is a USMC marine and he and his fiancé have already spoiled her rotten by spending the day at the beach! She has had no problem making herself comfortable sunbathing and giving kisses and we can't wait to hear more updates! Fingers crossed that she has finally found her forever family :)

Our sweet Cadence is still available for adoption! We have had quite a lot of interest in her but so far none of the applicants have been a great fit. C is a year and a half, crate trained and potty trained, knows verbal commands, is wonderful with children and absolutely loves to play with other dogs. She is up to date on shots, microchipped and of course spayed. She loves to go to the dog park, snuggle on the couch and play games outside! Although she would be wonderful in a house with another doggy friend, she cannot be with any cats, so please don't apply if you have one! Princess Cadence has survived an emergency blockage surgery, a copperhead attack and the death of her brother. In short, this perfect, sweet, playful and loving girl so deserves a forever home! Please visit our website at www.bushelandapeck.com to fill out an application

This may be one of the best written articles about the love of a pit bull. Being a pit owner is something that we at B&P are so grateful for, and know anyone who has opened their hearts and homes to these sweet pups can agree. ❤️

What they should have told me before I rescued my pit bull. What I've learned after I rescued my pit bull and how my life has completely changed.
