šµ If the likelihood of House Bill 958 ultimately reaching the North Carolina Senate were a prop bet, then thatās where youād want to put your money. Odds are the piece of legislation that would further erode access to the ballot box is going to make it out of the state House of Representatives and continue toward becoming law.
šŖ The flex for us is having slowed it down with collective public pressure that embarrassed the billās supporters. The heat we applied scared them. We made it plain that House Bill 958 would even hurt those who voted for the elected officials supporting the bill. So weāll take that win and keep chipping away at authoritarianism.
š„ And about that heat: In the video here, thereās talk about how House Bill 958 would grant the state auditor latitude to audit any general election in North Carolina. Well, the fire we lit under their behinds is so hot thereās now a whole different piece of legislation ā Senate Bill 1087; introduced Wednesday ā dedicated to granting the state auditor the authority to give the democracy-defying legislators the power they want.
āš¾ Weāve got something for that, too.
