The Forum in Rome was once the most important meeting place in the world. Located in the heart of the city it was the intersection of government, commerce and religion. It was a place for speeches, debate, public trials and the free exchange of ideas. For centuries what took place in and around the forum shaped the life of the empire
. In our fast-paced, techno-driven society face-to-face interactions are few and far between. There is no heart of the city where ideas are exchanged and the most important questions of our time discussed in a sustained and winsome manner. It is time to change that. In an effort to create space for meaningful discussion The New City Forum hosts monthly gatherings where we welcome world-class speakers to address the pressing questions of our time. Raleigh is not the center of an empire, nor do we hold delusions about our ability to change the world. But we can be an example of how a city comes together to consider what is most important and so shape the lives and loves of her people.
