Message from NCAWDB President, Jeff Frederick

Following last week’s NAWB annual conference, The Forum, I wanted to take a moment to share a few reflections and extend my sincere appreciation for the leadership and commitment demonstrated across our network, especially through the North Carolina Association of Workforce Development Boards (NCAWDB).

This year’s theme Ignite, Innovate, Impact served as both an inspiration and a call to action. As a Board Director with NAWB and in my role leading NCAWDB, I was reminded of the profound responsibility and opportunity we hold in advancing workforce development at every level.

What stood out most was the strength of our collective ecosystem. The continued evolution of workforce development in meeting the dynamic needs of individuals, businesses, and communities. The power of partnerships, spanning local, regional, state, national, and global levels. A shared commitment to elevating the national conversation around access, opportunity, and economic mobility and the importance of ongoing learning and innovation to drive meaningful, sustained impact.

Together, this work not only strengthens our systems, it contributes to the overall health and well-being of the workforce ecosystem, and the many stakeholders who rely on our efforts every day.

I left The Forum with a deep sense of gratitude for the work we do, and renewed motivation to continue building, aligning, and leading with purpose. The collaboration between NAWB, state associations like the NCAWDB, local boards, and our partners at every level is what enables us to truly ignite change, innovate with intention, and deliver lasting impact.

Thank you for your continued leadership and partnership. I look forward to carrying this momentum forward together.

Earlier this week, North Carolina Department of Commerce Chief Deputy Secretary Kenny Flowers visited the Career Center in Union County (Monroe). He joined Union Power Cooperative HR Manager Christina Snethen and the Union County economic development team for a great discussion about local workforce needs and the services that the local Career Center provides to employers.

Thanks to the Union County NCWorks team for hosting Chief Deputy Secretary Flowers and for supporting the partnership between workforce development & economic development!
