In Florida, most lightning strikes to humans occur with one of the first strikes from a storm or one of the last.

Halloween is quickly approaching, and no matter what costume you’re wearing, WakeMed Injury Prevention has some important tips to make your Halloween Safe! 👇🎃

- Always stick to one side of the street and never dart between parked cars.
- Use crosswalks when possible, and never cross in the middle of the road.
- Help drivers to see you by carrying a flashlight or glow stick.
- Plan your route and stick to a familiar neighborhood. Always avoid houses with lights off.
- Popular trick-or-treating hours are from 5:30 to 9:30 pm, so drivers need to be on high alert and keep all electronic devices down. Slow down, especially when driving through a residential neighborhood, and take extra time looking for pedestrians.

The Raleigh Police Department encourages all community members to take caution, especially on roadways as we experience severe weather from Hurricane Helene.

It only takes a few inches of water to knock a person off their feet or sweep a car away. Never drive through flooded roadways and stay away from swollen streams and rivers.
