Ayer nos reunimos en Raleigh para exigir dignidad, derechos humanos y justicia para las comunidades inmigrantes — y para decir con claridad: no vamos a normalizar la crueldad.

Gracias de corazón a quienes organizaron este evento, y especialmente a las Raging Grannies por recordarnos que la resistencia también se sostiene con alegría, amor y valentía intergeneracional. 💛

Una frase que dije ayer y que me llevo en el corazón:

“Y sí — necesitamos que votes este año.
Vota como si tus valores significaran algo.
Vota como si la dignidad de tu prójimo dependiera de ello — porque sí depende.”

Seguimos adelante con esperanza, con unidad, y con la certeza de que otro futuro sí es posible. Gracias, Univision, por amplificar esta lucha.

Yesterday in Raleigh we gathered to demand human rights, dignity, and justice for immigrant communities — and to say clearly: we will not normalize cruelty.

I’m deeply grateful to everyone who organized this powerful event, and especially to the Raging Grannies for reminding us that resistance can also be rooted in joy, love, and intergenerational courage. 💛

A line from my remarks that I’m holding close:

“And yes — we need you to vote this year.
Vote like your values mean something.
Vote like your neighbor’s dignity depends on it — because it does.”

We keep moving forward with hope, gratitude, and the belief that a better future is possible. Thank you, Univision, for lifting up this moment and this message.

Brava NC has just started, but we’ve already done so much! Thanks to our supporters and partners, we have been able to develop and give community safety trainings, distribute 150 care packages for rural families, and support rapid response efforts for the immigrant and Latine communities. This Tuesday, help us continue to uplift and invest in our communities!

Business owners said many of their employees are staying home with their kids instead of going to work. They are left with limiting operations or shutting down temporarily; they stress that three days of no foot traffic translates to a big chunk of our local economy.

“Small businesses that are already doing everything they can to survive are losing customers and income because people are terrified of being in public spaces,” Iliana Santillan, Executive Director of Brava NC.

"The damage is done in all 100 counties of North Carolina. I live in Raleigh. I have folks in Sanford, Chatham County, and Wilson. We're talking about families who are not leaving their homes and children who are not going to school," said Iliana Santillan with Brava NC. "We have elderly folks who are not getting medical help they need because they are afraid,"

Grassroots advocacy organizations are partnering up as they believe the effects of ICE agents in Charlotte are already being felt across the state.

Many businesses and work sites in North Carolina’s largest metros went quiet last week; business leaders and elected officials are calling for immigration reform.
