Journeymen Triangle mentors young men 13-19 to have fun, learn, and grow into healthy, compassionate, men of integrity.

We support self-awareness, community connection, and emotional growth in 13-19 year old boys through group mentoring, leadership development, community service, and Rites of Passage Adventure Weekends.

Last week, Journeymen mentors showed up to one of our school programs for one reason: to play.

But at field day, there was so much more at play than just games.

When real play happens — guards come down. Walls drop. Real conversations emerge. Young men begin to discover something about themselves, and something about each other.

Often times, that’s where growth lives. Not in a lecture. Not in a lesson plan. Out on the field, side by side, encouraging one another toward the finish line. Field day gave us all of that and more.

This is what the circle looks like in motion — mentors and boys moving together, growing together, challenging each other, and celebrating together. Because at the end of the day, that’s what Journeymen is about: meeting our community wherever it is, fully present and grounded in growth.

Journeymen brings together teenage boys and trained mentors within intergenerational group mentoring circles. We’ve spent years developing the mentors and partnerships to do this well and now we’re ready to start something more permanent here.

One circle. 15 families. 5 already in. 🔥

Growth doesn’t always announce itself. It shows up quietly in the way we handle a hard conversation, the things that no longer rattle us, or the choices we make intuitively.

But it’s not integrated until you name it.

This week at Jgroup, we paused to reflect: “How are you different now than when you started this year?”

Sitting around the fire, boys and men looked beyond that moment and explored the last few months. Uncovering times when life was great and times when life knocked them over.

Presence and awareness is the first step. Honest articulation is what grounds us. Being witnessed is what makes it stick. When we name the growth we’ve undergone, we build confidence in ourselves and trust in our ability to keep doing it. The lessons are solidified when accessed, articulated and seen by community.

This is the work.

This is what allows us to take the lessons with us and move into what’s next.

Feelings don’t exist in a vacuum. They carry information, and learning to read that information is how we start making intentional choices about how we show up.

This week at Jgroup, we practiced the pattern: feel, think, act. And we asked a hard question: are you responding, or just reacting? When we feel something, we might not know why and that’s okay but that feeling is carrying information to us. It’s not telling us the truth, it’s telling us what we BELIEVE about ourselves or the world.

Responding thoughtfully requires us to investigate the information embedded within emotions and to become aware of the stories we tell ourselves. Are these stories serving or harming us?

If you don’t understand this pathway and define what matters most to you, something else will do it for you. Our mentors understand this, and our Jmen are learning it. That’s the work.

This will be a kick-off to our annual fundraising event, and it will be a casual, family-friendly gathering. If you are an educator or a therapist, we will offer you a free ticket!
