Appeal for Mindanao Earthquake Disaster Relief
A magnitude-7.8 earthquake shook part of the southern Philippines early June 8, 2026, collapsing buildings and killing at least 32 people, 12 are missing, 200 or more injured in latest reports. Those numbers are expected to increase as rescuers search through collapsed buildings and infrastructures. The earthquake was felt across Mindanao.
We are appealing to you for your help.
Shortly after the quake, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said waves up to 3 meters (10ft) were possible on some coasts of the Philippines and that waves up to 1 meter were possible on some coasts of Indonesia and Malaysia. That threat, fortunately, has largely passed.
The Philippines is one of the world’s most disaster-prone countries and is often hit by earthquakes and volcanic eruptions because of its location on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” - an arc of seismic faults around the ocean. The Philippines is also hit by about 20 typhoons and tropical storms a year.
PAANC has provided funds for disaster relief to Caritas Philippines, the Social Action arm of the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines, every year following typhoons, floods, and earthquakes. Caritas is now sending Rapid Deployment of Assessment Teams to Mindanao to coordinate with local parishes to provide shelter to evacuees, assess needs, and provide food and clean water.
Please make your donations to PAANC Disaster Relief and on memo line indicate Mindanao earthquake, and mail to: PAANC, 4031 Oatgrass Lane, Raleigh, NC 27604. The PAANC Disaster Relief Project channels 100% of donations through Caritas Philippines, which likewise applies 100% of donations received to areas and communities badly hit due to earthquake in Mindanao.
We will also be accepting donations at tomorrow's picnic.
