The Housing InJustices with the Dorothea Dix "Plantation" Edge Study

Thursday, January 19, 2023 07:00 PM

Please join us and register for TONIGHT’s meeting at (Thursday, January 19, 2023) at 7:00 pm.

As we begin to organize and prepare those Black communities and voices living near the Springhill Plantation(Dorothea Dix Hospital) to attend and speak up at a Special Public Hearing Regarding the Dix Edge Area Study Final Report and Comprehensive Plan Amendment.

And on next week January 24, 2023 @ 5:00 p.m, we are going to meet at the Municipal Building 222 W. Hargett St. Raleigh in the City Council Chamber. And show up, speak up, stand in our power and demand that City of Raleigh & Dorothea Dix Park & Dix Park Conservancy & Political status quo… Don’t Even Try Put Us Back on the Plantation…!!! We Want Reparations.

Because Black families who live(d) in communities such as Fourth Ward, Springhill, Heritage Park, Walnut Terrance have been erased due to present and past acts of genocide and the historical continuance of enslavement.

We will address the generational harm & mental trauma of watching the white supremacy and/or government take domain over and steal Black farm land, bulldoze down Black owned businesses and family homes.

As well as discuss, our expectations in the form of reparations, justice, truth, healing, transparency and reconciliation from the City of Raleigh, the Dix (SpringHill Plantation) Edge Study and Dorothea Dix (SpringHill Plantation) Conservancy.

Extra police at Raleigh high school Friday following racist threat made on campus

Additional security is at Athens Drive High School on Friday following a racially charged threat left at the school.

Stephen Mares, the school’s principal, sent a message to Athens Drive families last week saying that a written threat, which included a racial slur, was scribbled on a table on campus, photographed and posted on social media.

In an updated message this week, Mares said they haven’t determined who wrote the threat. But he said an investigation has determined “the threat does not appear to be highly credible.”

“Please know we take all threats such as this very seriously,” Mares wrote. “Therefore, we have mobilized many resources to both investigate and prepare as if this is a legitimate threat to our school, and we continue to do that.

“We will have extra support from WCPSS Security and Law Enforcement on campus this Friday to ensure we have a great day of teaching and learning.”

Extra security was also at the school last week after the threat was first found.

Once the offenders have been identified, Mares said “appropriate action will be taken,” including potentially both school disciplinary and legal actions.

In the meantime, he acknowledged “the concern and stress” that the threat has caused on students and families at the Raleigh magnet school. The threat comes amid school shootings and a spike in school threats locally and nationally.

This story was originally published January 13, 2023 9:32 AM.

The school says the threat isn’t considered to be credible, but extra security and law enforcement is on campus as a precaution.

Do you have family & friends who live in Monticeto Apartments & Quail Ridge Apartments off Wake Forest Rd & Falls of the Neuse in North Raleigh…???

If so, your family & friends are going to have to move out and find somewhere elsewhere to live this winter.

Unfortunately, Drucker + Falk are tearing these naturally occurring affordable housing down & putting 600 families out.

Drucker + Falk plans on replacing the existing apartments with more expensive apartments at Montecito and business offices at Ridge Apartments.

And of course, Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin & Corey Branch, Raleigh City Councilor - District C & Jonathan Melton, Raleigh City Council At-Large voted to put 600 families out on the street…!!! Many of these families make less than $30,000 a year.

So again, I hope that any & all of you that supported and/or donated and voted for Mary Ann, Corey & Jonathan.

May you all have the uncontrollable sh*ts for at least 600 days. One day for each family that you are helping to push into the streets or homeless shelter…!!!
