A piece of World Trade Center history lives right here at Rutgers.

While researching his New York Times best-selling book on the twin towers, Rutgers University—New Brunswick professor Angus Gillespie compiled hundreds of Port Authority documents detailing the buildings' original construction. After donating his research to Rutgers Libraries, these records became some of the only remaining copies when the Port Authority’s own archives were lost on 9/11.

When Ciara Camarena's parents moved from the Dominican Republic to the United States, they did so in pursuit of greater educational opportunities for their children. This fall, that commitment comes full circle as Ciara becomes the first in her family to attend college.

Throughout high school, the Montvale native balanced strong academics, athletics, leadership activities, a part-time job, and family responsibilities. She even saved enough money to purchase her own car with cash, a milestone she sees as a symbol of the independence she worked hard to achieve.

Now a member of 's School of Arts and Sciences and the Class of 2030, Ciara is exploring her future with the support of the Educational Opportunity Fund program. She hopes to learn more about international business, inspired in part by her grandfather's chocolate export business, while discovering where her passions lead.

Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital neurosurgeon, Hai Sun, MD, has received a $2.9 million NIH grant to identify the areas of the brain that trigger an epileptic seizure so that doctors can know where to target when they perform surgery to eliminate seizures. Gabrielle Farquharson takes her place in the Rutgers Athletics Hall of Fame. The first Big Ten Champion in school history, she earned seven All-America honors, nine Big Ten medals and secured nine school records over her career.

They tore down New Brunswick’s Memorial Homes. The community survived.

Twenty-five years later, former residents of the longtime New Brunswick public housing complex are telling a different story than the one many remember.

Through photographs, oral histories, personal artifacts and original artwork featured in a new Rutgers University exhibition, they are sharing memories of a community they say survived long after the buildings disappeared.

It is their lived experience that now fills the rooms and walls of “We Mean Something to Each Other: Life in Memorial Homes,” an exhibit on display at Rutgers University’s Mason Gross Galleries through Aug. 4. The exhibition features research by Rutgers University, Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning & Public Policy urban planning students, original artwork by Mason Gross School of the Arts graduate students, artifacts and oral histories from community members, and photographs by Rutgers graduates Ben Gest and Phil Buehler.
