Known as the “Little Saint” of Patagonia, Ceferino was born in 1886 to a Mapuche chief and raised Catholic. Ceferino dreamed of becoming a Salesian priest to serve and uplift his people. Despite facing illness and cultural challenges, he lived with deep faith, humility, and a desire for unity between Indigenous traditions and the Catholic Church.

As a proud Mapuche and devoted Catholic, Ceferino teaches us that our cultural roots can enrich our faith and that there is beauty in embracing both.

Conocido como el “Santito” de la Patagonia, Ceferino nació en 1886, hijo de un cacique mapuche, y fue criado en la fe católica. Soñaba con ser sacerdote salesiano para servir y elevar a su pueblo. A pesar de enfrentar enfermedades y desafíos culturales, vivió con profunda fe, humildad y un deseo de unidad entre las tradiciones indígenas y la Iglesia católica.

Como orgulloso mapuche y católico devoto, Ceferino nos enseña que nuestras raíces culturales pueden enriquecer nuestra fe y que hay belleza en abrazar ambas identidades.

Born of African and Indigenous descent, St. Martin served the sick and poor with humility and joy. He is the patron saint of social justice and racial harmony. “God of compassion, through the example of St. Martin, help us love without limits.”

Faith is more than belief — it’s a daily choice to live with love and courage.

De ascendencia africana e indígena, San Martín sirvió a los pobres y enfermos con humildad y alegría. Es patrono de la justicia social y la armonía racial. “Dios de compasión, por el ejemplo de San Martín, ayúdanos a amar sin límites.”

When parents are "recruiting" for the right school for their children, they often look at the metrics: test scores, student-to-teacher ratios, and curriculum. All of these factors are important here at St. Egbert Catholic School, but one factor that can’t be measured is heart.

Yesterday afternoon, a student kept talking about her "Uncle Ray." Confused, her mother told her, “You don’t have an Uncle Ray." She looked right at her mother and said, "Yes, I do, Mama! He walks me to class when I come in the back door at school!" Her mother said, “At school?” The student said “Yes! Uncle Ray is the best at school!”

It’s a beautiful thing when our staff members like Mr. Moore, Director of Safety and Security, become honorary family members. ❤️
