Last Night, Members of Carnivore Conservation Crew and individuals throughout the Research Triangle Area attended “Wolves in The Red,” a short film presentation and panel discussion with representatives from The Red Wolf Coalition, NC State University, Duke University Restore, Wildlands Network, and Filmakers and members of indigenous communities!

The film, “Waya: Saving Our Red Grandfather” told the story of the Red Wolf and their impact not only ecologically but also culturally. The Red Wolf is a symbol in Cherokee culture and the Cherokee tribes hold reverence for this species.

We encourage you to check out the film, available via https://cherokee.film/productions/documentaries/ This film shares the signficiance of this incredible species not only within our environment but as a cultural symbol and opportunity for us to all learn from the environment and the animals that call it home.

There are so many ways to support this species and we encourgae you to get involved!

Reporting from Wolf Prowl!

Members from Carnivore Conservation Crew reported bright and early at 8 am to complete a day full of routine maintenance work around what we call Wolf Prowl!

From routine habitat care to supply organization and weeding, we did it all!

But remember………while our members were out there this morning, we couldn’t do the work we do without YOUR SUPPORT!

"Wolves in the Red" at Duke University - A follow-up on yesterday's post!

The featured film "Waya: Saving Our Red Grandfather," a documentary by Cherokee Film and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, details the cultural significance of the endangered red wolf to the Cherokee people as well as the species' importance in the present.

SUGGESTED READING: "Another Country: Journeying Toward the Cherokee Mountains" by Christopher Camuto. Traveling by foot and by canoe and often in the company of Red Wolf field biologist Chris Lucash, Camuto takes the reader into the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina and eastern Tennessee - the historical home of the Cherokee with its once sacred rivers, forests and mountains. Camuto showcases the persistent relevance of Cherokee language, thought and mythology and brings us to an appreciation of the southern Appalachians.

"A long time ago, the howl became a word, a name. Wa'ya to the Cherokee, to whom the mountains also listened in the old time. Son of the wind; companion to Kana'ti; father of the Ani'-Wa'ya, the Wolf people, principal clan. Familiar spirit to hunters. Perfect walker. Far traveler. Revenge taker and altruist. Unseen shape between the trees. Shy shadow from the long past. Rufus flicker in the mind of god." ~ Christopher Camuto

Dearest reader,

I’m Pamela, but you might know me as Lady Howl, the stealthy companion of Boone from the NCSU Red Wolf Pack. 🐺✨ I must say, his company is pawsitively delightful!

While I adore my human friends, I’m not a fan of their noisy antics. My favorite pastime? Hiding from them to gather all the juicy pack gossip just for you!

Last week, one of the humans managed to snap a pic of my best side. Sneaky, right? But don’t worry, I’ll be more elusive next time! 😉

For now, enjoy these adorable shots of my adventures with the pack. 📸🐾

Always watching,
Pamela aka Lady Howl 🐾👀

🌟 What an incredible open house it was! 🌟
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday. We loved sharing our passion for saving my species and exploring the fascinating world of veterinary medicine with you all. 🐾

Did you know that, like human medicine, there are so many paths to choose from? From general practice to large animals, farm animals, surgery, and my personal favorite—Wildlife/Zoological Medicine! 🦁🐘🦜🐺

Wildlife vets get to learn about a wide variety of species, unlike human doctors who focus on just one. It’s a journey full of discovery, collaboration, and dedication to providing the best care for every patient. 🌍

Preserving the incredible creatures in our world is a team effort, and we’re thrilled to have you all on board, whether you’re pursuing a career in veterinary medicine or not. 🙌

Stay tuned for my big reveal tomorrow! 🎉

With love,
Lady Howl 🐾❤️
