❤️ Day 10 theme is Relief! ❤️

At the end of class we give time for anyone who wants to share moments of gratitude. They can be taiko related or personal, and gives us the chance to celebrate or give thanks for one another’s moments of relief and joy.

We have had some members who have had non-taiko accidents and injuries recently - a couple bad falls, a bad cut, and even a lightning strike! We’re very relieved everyone is safe and wish you all a safe and healthy year ahead.

Many thanks, as always, to Nen Daiko for putting us up to this 10-day taiko challenge. It’s always such a pleasure to share and learn about so many groups around the world. ❤️

❤️ Day 9 theme is Voice! ❤️

Whenever Beren does a taiko workshop for the public there is always kuchi showa and kake goe involved. Because our voices are a key element to taiko.

We love how crowds may be a little shy at first, but then fully embrace shouting by the end of the workshop!

❤️ Day 8 theme is Construction! ❤️

Triangle Taiko member, Fahad, built his own drum several years ago with former Triangle Taiko and Earth Spirit Taiko member, Jim Sink. Here are some photos at different stages of the process.

What do you think of the finished product?

❤️ Day 6 theme is Home! ❤️

We are lucky to call Carolina Pines our home! We have a wonderful practice space with full length mirrors and large closet for our drums and equipment.

Our friends at Raleigh Parks & Rec, and the fantastic staff at Carolina Pines are a much appreciated part of our extended Triangle Taiko family!

❤️ Day 5 theme is: Renewal! ❤️

Oh boy - we've got some catching up to do!

Behind the scenes, the Members page of our website underwent a renewal this year.

Kudos to Nanako, Beren, Keith, Fahad, Sandhya & Waka who all contributed many hours to this effort:

- updating music sheets
- recording practice videos outside of class time focusing on song parts
- recording and editing class run throughs for people who miss class and for Nanako to review and give feedback
- uploading videos to our YouTube channel and organizing playlists by song
- recording recent performances to refresh our library of full song videos

Otsukaresama! We appreciate you!!

That time when we had a gig in Virginia and just had to visit the new Buccee’s to buy up all the things! We were nice enough to bring some back to share with the rest of the crew.

Our Story

Triangle Taiko celebrates joy and diversity, and welcomes everybody who wish to join us in doing us. Our members come from many walks of life and are of various ages and backgrounds, unexperienced to highly experience musicians. We simply enjoy playing taiko together.

Triangle Taiko formed in 2002, with the earliest meeting to initiate it was January 20th. This meeting consisted of figuring out the mission of the club at a very young age and in an environment lacking taiko in the east coast. Soon after, Triangle Taiko performed its first performance at the Nippon Club Picnic in October 12th 2002, followed by several others by the end of the year.

Special Taiko has been an integral part of Triangle Taiko. Special Taiko is a joint program held with the City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Department. A lot of our Special Taiko members perform when they get the chance to do so, as they are always excited to do so!

Over the past decade, Triangle Taiko has grown, with many members joining more permanently, and others joining briefly and sharing their ways of joy and taiko with us. Eventually, our sister group, Earth Spirit Taiko, formed at Asheboro and became its own autonomous group playing and performing the Asheboro area. Triangle Taiko could never become what it is today thanks to the many members who played with us throughout the years, we greatly appreciate players who have became part of us, and miss those we played with us in the past.
