Hi, my name is Shanika Houlder-White. I am the founder of the Nia House and a proud survivor and advocate for Black women empowerment.
I'm also a mom, a wife, and a veteran organizer who spent many years in the field fighting for public schools access to funding, fighting to end racism and discrimination in the public and private sectors and ultimately now, fighting to make sure Black women can leave abusive relationships without dying.
I am passionate about helping women find their purpose as I once was in the same place, going back time and time again even when I had the opportunity to leave. We were in two different countries but the love I had for him and the fear he commanded in my life was so great. Yet, I would not have accomplished none of these things including now being able to start my own cause, if I did not get out of that toxic situation.
With that said, I know having a solid plan of action especially because I had kids with him, is the most important competent apart from finding the courage to do it.
I started the Nia House because I have been where many of you are standing right now. Abused, feeling used, and ashamed of thinking it would get better. Believe me, it's the hardest thing to carry that pain inside and at the same time feel so afraid and ashamed to share it with anyone. It's like you know what you have to do, yet are so paralyzed from dreading the outcome.
What will your family and friends think of you?
Will everyone think you're a fool for having stayed that long?
What will your kids think of you (if you do have kids)?
Will your family throw it in your face, and say we told you he so? Afterall, they told you he wasn't s**t.
You might not even have any family to care that much.
But you need to know, you have the strength to be whole again. to take control of your life, to share your story, to step into your power and to help other women.
contact the nia house and we will work out how we get you out safely.
All you have to do is contact us. We're here for you.
