MyFriendBen is an online benefits navigator designed to help individuals and families quickly
identify and access public benefits, tax credits, and local resources for which they may be
eligible. The tool provides a simple, user-friendly screening process where users answer a short
series of questions about their household, income, and circumstances. Based on their responses,
the platform matches them with relevant programs, including:
• Public Assistance Programs (SNAP/food assistance, Medicaid, childcare support,
housing programs, etc.)
• Tax Credits (Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, etc.)
• Local and State Programs (community-based resources, utility assistance, job training,
etc.)
The tool is designed to reduce barriers, save time, and connect people to benefits they may not
know about. It emphasizes accessibility, confidentiality, and ease of use.
In North Carolina, MyFriendBen-NC has been adopted as part of community engagement and
base-building efforts, helping connect residents to resources while also supporting broader
organizing goals. NC APRI is reaching out to community members, friends, family, and
associates to educate them about the tool and how they can benefit from it, ensuring that we use
