Couldn’t Do It Alone by Anonymous Pilot. Thank you for sharing your story 💙 welcome to our POSI. None of us can do it alone, and we shouldn’t feel like we have to.

We all talk about how things need to change, but what does that look like?
This week a reporter asked this question and we’d love to hear what you envision.

Stronger in the Air and on the Ground
By anonymous pilot
Which is harder, flying an Osprey in the Marines or seeking help for mental health as a pilot?
Thank you for sharing 🙏🏽 you’re not alone and stronger than anyone out there.

Pilots Need Fuel Too by Anonymous Pilot.
In a career where you are constantly having to prove your ability and continue to pass checkrides, pilots can absolutely feel the pressure to be perfect. We’re all humans and the stress can affect us just as much as anyone. Glad to hear a story where someone recognized it was getting too much, stepped back to take care of themselves, and came back to the cockpit better than ever.
If easier pathways existed for career pilots to do this without penalties or fear of losing their medical in all mental health scenarios the industry would be a much better place.
Thank you for sharing. Welcome to our POSI 💙

How many times do we have to hear the same heart breaking stories, to lose fellow pilots, before a change happens? We’re all human, we all need help sometimes. Let’s prevent this from happening again.
Thank you for sharing 🙏🏽💙

A HIMS AME that specializes in mental health and helping pilots through the special issuance process graciously spent some time with us this week to give us a rundown.
Feel free to dm us if you have any specific questions you’d like us to track down for you. Chances are if you don’t know the answer, others are in the same boat.

Punished for Doing The Right Thing by anonymous pilot.
Being penalized for seeking help in times of need is unacceptable. Life is messy and filled with challenges. It’s inevitable. We’re only human and it’s time to help the human side that lives in all pilots. We’re not machines.
Thank you for sharing your story. 💙No matter what the outcome you did the right thing and are incredibly strong. I’m relieved that you were able to follow your passion in the end, even if the extra work made it that much more frustrating.

20 Years Later
By: Anonymous Pilot
Thank you for sharing your story and thank you for your bravery. You are not alone and this helps others feel supported as well. We’re all in this together ❤️✈️
Imagine a world where the first person you turn to for help in aviation, your flight instructor, is able to guide you in the right direction instead of turn you running the other way.
This is why we’re working to get anonymous therapy instated at flight schools, education on what options are available for help, and training for flight instructors. Let’s make some changes 💪🏽

Immensely saddened to hear the loss of a student pilot likely due to mental health struggles. Good on University of North Dakota for putting a task force together and anonymous counseling in place. Now how do we get these initiatives widespread to prevent tragedies like this in the future?

Love to hear a story with a happy ending and a great reminder that you can seek help and still be a pilot.
If the anonymous writer feels comfortable reaching out, I’d be interested to hear more about why they denied you in the first place - it’s supposed to not be a problem if you’ve been off the medication for 60 days. Unfortunately some AMEs are not caught up on the actual FAA guidelines for issuance.

“Troubles on the Horizon” by anonymous Pilot.
Things are rarely how they look on the outside. That’s the whole reason this project was started, to pull back the curtain and show how we can feel sometimes as humans, not just invincible pilots.
There is never shame in asking anyone for help or opening up but that doesn’t make it any easier. Life is long and small slumps are unavoidable. To the author of this story - you are not alone. Thank you for sharing so others don’t feel alone either.
