INSTRUCTOR ANNOUNCEMENT!

CHRISTIAN BÜTTNER (He/Him)

Christian has been fencing for 8 years and dancing for almost 21 years. Since early lessons that showed overlap between these two sports he has been persuing this overlap and attempting to build the movement theory and pedagogy from various dance forms into fencing. At MKdF he now teaches longsword fundamentals, military saber, and montante which have all benefited from dance-related work. As a man who does not fit the average size and physicality of HEMA fencers he is also dedicated to making his classes adaptable and useful to folks of all sizes and abilities.
etting to the Point - Setting up Thrusts with F.C. Christmann

While thrusts are an element in all saber systems they are a particular focus in F.C. Christmann. From the guards to the parries to the footwork there is an intention of working with a thrust.

In this class we will examine the necessary biomechanics to thrust safely and effectively and will look at the techniques that are used to set up a thrust both acting with initiative and in response.

Carolina Campaign 2026 - INSTRUCTOR ANNOUNCEMENT!

KEVIN REZAC

Kevin is one of the Head Fencing Instructors at Round Table Historical Fencing in Frederick, MD, and an Assistant Fencing Instructor at Sala Della Spada in Carlisle, PA. He has, off and on, nearly 20 years of fencing experience, beginning with sport fencing in 2006 and jumping into HEMA in 2016. While Kevin’s background is rooted in modern sport fencing his historical focus is on French and Italian smallsword, rapier, and sabre traditions.

Class Title:

Footwork...but it's all Fun & Games!

Class Description:

Footwork may be one of the most dreaded words in fencing but it doesn’t have to be! Join us as we explore a variety of engaging fencing footwork games and drills designed to build skill, sharpen decision making, and challenge how you think about movement. These activities are suitable for nearly all experience levels, from novice students to seasoned instructors, and can easily be adapted and brought back to your home clubs for continued practice. The class will follow a relaxed, interactive format with a rhythm of play and discussion: we’ll introduce a game, play it, discuss its key ideas and discover its “secrets”, then (now armed with knowledge) play again before moving on to the next one. Come ready to move, think, and play!

This class is weapon agnostic and requires only a light glove to participate.

Carolina Campaign Instructor Announcement — Join Walker Skaggs to Catch up on Seidler and Learn Close Action Skirmish Combat!

The Long and Short Tables of Seidler: This class is intended to explain the Long and Short parry-riposte combinations of Seilder’s 1843 Manual, as well as his cutting mechanics for better use of a full arm. Likewise there shall be a heavy emphasis on the differing tempos and ranges of action on the inside and outside lines. Participants shall complete the class with the ability to lead and follow through the Long Parry Drill, Short Parry Drill, and butcher the German language through both.

Fix Bayonets, Scrapping & Stabbing with the Musket: This class is meant to prepare participants for the chaos of a close action skirmish by giving them a well rounded toolkit of simple attacks, parries, and priorities. Drawing from Hutton, Angelo, and Fehn as well as practical experience in melees. Participants will come away with an understanding of how to keep themselves loose and dangerous even under pressure of a sudden attack by any hand weapon.

"Where history meets steel."

Triangle Sword Guild brought the past to life at Alamance Battleground this weekend — crossing blades on the same ground where North Carolina's history was written. We fenced, we talked, and we shared our love of historical martial arts with curious visitors who stopped to watch (and ask lots of great questions).

There's something special about practicing these arts where history actually happened.
