Lazy Akers Rescue

Lazy Akers Rescue We rescue, rehab and rehome abused, neglected, and/or unwanted horses. Donations gladly accepted🐴♥️ Shannon is the founder of the organization.

Shannon had always wanted to be a veterinarian and get involved in horses but never had the opportunity to go down that path. It all started when Jim gave Shannon the greatest gift of all....A horse! That's where it started for her. Although Shannon grew up around horses. She never had her own. She knew a lot of people who had some severely emaciated, neglected, and very sad horses that she decide

d to take on. From there, she's been reaching out and helping every horse she can in anyway. Whether it's taking a horse, buying hay & grain for someone in need, paying for a farrier for a horse that's needed. Her compassion, kindness, and willingness to help horses is an inspiration to all. She also has 4 dogs, 2 cats, 1 birds, and 2 horses. Her love for animals doesn't end at just horses. She currently has 3 special need bulldogs (spina bifida) and a special needs cat. Ailaa is Shannon's daughter. Ailaa has always had a love and compassion for any animal, especially a fascination with horses but never had the opportunity to learn. When her Mom got her own horse, she's been learning by the side of her Mom and helping where and when she can. Ailaa's very first horse was Spirit. He opened a book of love, lessons about self and openness that she never knew existed. Spirit rode up into heaven & Ailaa wishes to give everything Spirit taught her to any horse she can. Ailaa currently has 4 very spoiled dogs. Lazy Akers Equine Rescue is an non profit organization.

Wanted to let everyone know that Anya was sent to the rainbow pasture on July 1. She had been feeling off for some time. And had went down that night in the field. We were unable to get her up. We called our vet and with his opinion in mind we decided it was the best decision. She will be dearly missed. She was a sweet horse!

If you are going to have horses, feed them enough.

Don't make excuses for simply not providing enough quality food.

Horses are costly, and as they age, the costs continue to rise.

Make plans to be able to afford what they need.

In this economy, expenses are double what they were a few years ago, plan accordingly.

Don't say he is old, and that is why he is thin.

Don't say the mare just had a foal, and that is why she is thin.

Don't say he is a Thoroughbred, so that is just how they look.

Don't say they have an illness that prevents a healthy weight.

Don't claim your vet said keep him skinny because of arthritis.

Don't say the weight just suddenly fell off a week ago.

Don't say a rough coat and body score of 3 is adequate.

Instead of defending yourself,
instead of making excuses,
instead of looking for people to agree with you that the poor condition of your horse is okay,

Just
Feed
Your
Horse 👈

Be willing to hear advice and reach out for advice or help.

Your excuses are for you. They don't feed your horse or get to the bottom of medical issues.

Familiarize yourself with what a healthy horse looks like.

Things can happen where a horse drops weight in a situation where dental needs, blood work, parasites or herd management changed - It happens to the best of us or to any horse. The difference is whether you deny there is a need to make a change.

And if you can’t make that change, place them somewhere that will! There’s never a valid excuse to not feed your animals! Period!

I DID NOT KNOW…

I did not know a horse could bring people into your life that end up meaning the most to you.
I did not know a horse could make the hardest days of your life bearable.
I did not know a horse could teach you to put others first.
I did not know a horse could remind you time and time again that your gut is always right.
I did not know a horse could break your heart.
I did not know a horse could pick you up when you have fallen apart.
I did not know a horse could teach you to dream again, after you thought it was not possible.
I did not know a horse could make you believe in yourself.
I did not know a horse could teach responsibility, work ethic, and dedication.
I did not know a horse could make you believe in something when no one else does.
I did not know a horse could make you learn to forgive and forget.
I did not know a horse could humble you faster than you can say humble.
I did not know a horse could make you a winner.
I did not know a horse could also teach you how to lose gracefully.
I did not know a horse could instill patience in you.
I did not know a horse could make you listen better.
I did not know a horse could give you their heart.
I did not know a horse could change your life.
I did not know a horse could do all these things...
but now I know. ❤️❤️.
