Past President Quanae Palmer was invited by Nancy Brewer President of the Plainfield Historical Society to witness the unveiling of the marker on the NJ Heritage Trail at the Drake House Museum in Plainfield NJ. Caesar was an African who was sold to Issac Drake of Plainfield and whose body is interred in the cemetery of Scotch Plains Baptist Church.

He was most likely captured by Portuguese slave traders as they were the number one kidnappers of African souls…and entered America through Ambo point as many of the enslaved did who served in Union County.

Those in attendance were privy to singing, excellent speeches centering on Caesar and the horrors of slavery in NJ and we closed with libations. A very powerful event.

The African foot print is large. I’m grateful for the people doing the work to unveil these stories.

They present the best case for reparations.
