🐾 IT’S ME AGAIN… OPAL

Today, I’m taking you all the way back to my origin story. Before the Meraki adoption events, before the cute photos, and before I became the OG Meraki girl.

For those who don’t know, I’m kind of a legend around here. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Every good story has a beginning, and mine starts out on the streets.

Life wasn’t exactly a walk in the park. I was out there trying to survive, doing what I had to do to get by. Along the way, I had multiple litters of puppies. Being a mama is hard enough, but imagine trying to raise your babies out there with no safe place to call home. I did the best I could with what I had, but life on the streets is unpredictable. Every day was about survival, and I never knew what tomorrow would bring.

Then, one day, everything changed. After all that time out there, I was finally rescued. Now, you might be thinking, “Opal, girl, you can’t just leave us hanging like that!” oh, but I absolutely can. 😂

Because what happened after I was captured? And how did my story help lead to the rescue you know today?

🚨 EMERGENCY FOSTER NEEDED FOR VIOLET OR PEPI🚨

After five months together, these two desperately need a break from each other.

Unfortunately, they are beginning to develop littermate syndrome. They need time apart so they can learn to grow, socialize, and develop into confident, independent dogs. They deserve the opportunity to thrive as individuals, and right now, that means finding separate homes for them.

🐾 Meraki is urgently looking for a foster for EITHER Violet or Pepi.

Our ideal situation would be a long term foster or an adopter who can give these pups a home of their own. But we know that’s a big commitment, so we are also desperately looking for someone who can help with a **temporary foster of up to 4 weeks.** Can't commit to four weeks, reach out to us anyway. Even a short break could make a meaningful difference for these puppies.

What does fostering require?
🏡 A safe, loving home and a willingness to give a puppy individual attention and help them grow.

What Meraki provides:
We will send them with everything they need, including food, a crate, leash, harness, collar, toys, and more.

🙏 We want to be honest about something: Meraki Animal Rescue & Outreach simply doesn't have enough foster homes. Three of our dogs are currently being fostered by our founder. And unfortunately, Violet and Pepi are the ones paying the price. They aren't doing anything wrong. They're growing up together without enough opportunities to experience life independently, and they need us to step up for them.

We cannot do this without our community. We need someone willing to open their home, whether for two weeks, four weeks or forever.

WHAT A WEEKEND FOR MERAKI PUPPY ADOPTIONS! 🐾

It all started with our first returned puppy, Oliver, finding his next chapter. Then, three of our newest Meraki fosters, the shepherd pups Tito, Tanner, and Parker all found their forever homes. ❤️

We’re hoping to keep that momentum going and get our remaining three puppies adopted by the end of October. 🤞

📣 COME MEET OUR ADOPTABLE PUPS THIS SATURDAY at North South Brewing Company in Fayetteville, NC from 1-4 PM.

We’ll have three amazing pups waiting to meet their future families.

VIOLET & PEPI 💜
These two 5 month old pittie mixes have been with us for far too long! They’re sweet, playful, smart, and ready to find families of their own. They’re kid friendly, dog friendly, house trained, and crate trained. Seriously, what more could you ask for? We’re shocked these two incredible pups haven’t been scooped up yet.

TESS 🥰
At just 4 months old, Tess is the last of her litter. She watched three of her brothers leave for their forever homes all at once, and now it’s her turn to find her people. She is still a young pup with so much to learn and so many wonderful things to experience. She has the most gorgeous eyes and is as sweet as can be!

✨ Three puppies. Three amazing personalities. Three families out there who just haven't found them yet.

Come spend some time with Violet, Pepi, and Tess this Saturday! You might just meet your new best friend.

We have an exciting pupdate! 🤎🐾

Oliver was returned 3 weeks ago after being adopted earlier this year. We gave him a couple weeks to acclimate at his fosters house & recently started posting him. Well Mr Ollie hit the jackpot & was adopted! We are so happy for him & his new mama!

Hey everyone, Pepi here.

I’ve been thinking… maybe it’s time I introduced myself again but as a solo act this time. Sorry sis (Violet).

I’m 5 months old, and I’m still waiting for someone to look at my picture and think, “Yep. That’s my boy.” ❤️

I was one of a litter of puppies looking for homes. My siblings have gone off to start their happily-ever-afters. Even my mom has been adopted! 🥹

But here I am. And my sister Violet is still waiting too. We’re actually in the same foster home, so at least we have each other while we wait. But honestly, we're growing pretty tired of each other.

Lately, it feels like everyone is looking at the younger puppies. And I get it. Puppies are cute. Those tiny little shepherd mix babies are pretty adorable.

But…HELLO?! I'M STILL A PUPPY! 😂

Sure, I'm 5 months old now. I’m not quite the tiny puppy I once was, but I’m still young, goofy, playful and learning every day. Unfortunately, I think being a black dog and a pit bull mix doesn't exactly help me stand out. 🖤

The older I get, the more I worry that people will keep scrolling past me. But if you stop scrolling for just a second, let me tell you what you’re getting with me:

I'm the kind of puppy who wants to be part of the family and has a whole lot of love to give. I want to play. I want to learn. I want to go on adventures. I want someone to watch me grow from a goofy puppy into the amazing dog I know I can be.

And most importantly, I want to belong. I don't want to spend the next several months watching other puppies come into Meraki and get adopted while I keep getting passed over. I don't want to grow up in rescue simply because I wasn't the newest or tiniest puppy anymore. 💔

I'm ready...

Hi friends! Violet here! 🐾

I’m 5 months old, and somehow, I’m still waiting for my forever family. 🥺

I was part of a litter of puppies looking for homes. One by one, my siblings found their families. Even my mom got adopted ❤️

And now… it’s just me and my brother (Pepi) still waiting. We’re together in the same foster home and as much as I love him, he's kind of starting to get on my nerves. I'm hoping someone will finally look at me and say, “That’s my dog.”

I think maybe I have a few things working against me.
I’m a black dog. I’m a pit bull mix. And I’m not a tiny 8-week-old puppy anymore.

And now that Meraki has some adorable 4 month old shepherd mix puppies, I feel like I’m getting lost in the shuffle. 😔

But here's the thing…I'M STILL A PUPPY! 💕
I’m sweet. I’m playful. I’m goofy. I’m curious. I’m ready for someone who wants to watch me grow into the amazing adult dog I’m going to become.

Most of all, I want someone to look past my color, my breed and the fact that I’m not a tiny puppy anymore and see ME. Please don't let me become one of those dogs who gets overlooked simply because they grew up waiting. 💔
